Football World Divided After Late Winner

Late Winner
By Boris Mellor
December 28 2008
The Football World is divided as to whether Arsenal can win the league after William Gallas scored a late winner against Pompey. On one side all the Premiership managers, all the media, and most sane Arsenal fans say that Arsenal can't. On the other side Arsene Wenger says they can.

In an exclusive interview with Arsenal Times Wenger explained that the team had played with the handbrake on in the first half. At the start of the second half he instructed them to take it off; unfortunately some bastard traffic warden had clamped them for being constantly parked in parallel lines so it made no difference.

Arsenal were also a little nervous, they feared that Crouch might score, and if anything really upsets Adebayor and Eboue its having to watch  tall white men who can't dance properly celebrate a goal. Fortunately Pat Rice thought up a cunning plan to break the deadlock. He shouted out, "Billy, you were right and we were wrong?  You are a great captain?"

Once a leader - Gallas scores the winner

Billy doesn't do irony and thought his glorious legacy had been rehabilitated. In gratitude he demonstrated to Bendtner and Adebayor how you actually power a header home.

The crowd showed their gratitude by singing the managers name in the closing minutes. That really pissed Wenger off as his name isn't Tony Adams.

Seriously

Joking apart this was a piss poor game with neither side doing very much. Portsmouth had come to park the bus, and who can blame them after a 4-1 thrashing by the Hammers? I don't think Arsenal had more than two shots in the first half, if that. The second half was equally pants, until late substitutions of Vela and Ramsey put a spark of life into the team. Vela in particular began to twist the Pompey defence about. He wasn't scared of getting behind the Portsmouth defence. Something most of the Arsenal team had avoided up till then.

Indeed Bendtner and Ade were particularly ineffective, and Nasri had the weight of the whole central midfield on his shoulders. However the team finally roused itself for the 81 minute winner, and then entertained the crowd by showing they do know how to defend a lead after all. It would be ungracious to say they nearly cocked it up, a wins a win.

Meanwhile Wenger stated that he might buy during the transfer window. But if he does it will be players of experience. Wow that's radical; couldn't we just have a few more kids?

All season i've wanted Vela to start, he's better on the LW than the lot of them and a good finisher, closest to Eduardo.

On SKY thommo said Bendtner was used as a left winger most of the game and then when Vela came on Nik was moved to right wing, is this true

It was all crazy Eboue was up front for parts of it, i think Wenger was trying to use Nasri a bit more and the whole team got shifted.

Just seen the game on Football First and must say Bendtner and Nasri were our best two players today and Vela was very good when he came on, these 3 put in effort and had a bit of life about them

Good time for Bendtner to raise his game with the JTW coming up. A big money deal on the back of some half decent performances would be nice.

Nice.
But we are not so much worried about getting the best deal or to make money before we buy- we just want to improve our squad.

Nasri looked really good when switched centrally,Ade was like bambi on ice,Bendtner worked hard and Vela did well,Ramsey covered a lot of ground and gets into tackles well. The result was important, though the performance was poor. Our tempo is so slow now too many passes to get no where and not incisive enough, thats the case pretty much when everyone is fit aswell.

Always Arsenal, Arsene,and Arshavin
