Great Honour or a Burden? Send More Cops

Captain Fab
By Boris Mellor
November 24 2008
In one of Romero's Zombie movies the living dead devour the police sent to apprehend them, then one of them grabs the police CB radio and barks, "send more cops". I don't quite know why but it reminds me of some of Wenger's methods. Gallas complains the kids are out of control so Arsene puts a kid in charge. Gallas must understand my analogy, or at least feel it.

The Captaining of Fabregas is Wenger's way of saying the youth revolution continues. It is a fairy tale story a 21 year old captain of one of the world's largest clubs. However the dream could become a nightmare, it all depends on what the real cause of the recent malaise was.

Arsenals Cesc Fabregas is challenged by Manchester Uniteds Rafael Da Silva for the ball

If the cause is that Gallas has demoralised the team then Cesc could be seen as a miracle appointment. However if Gallas is right and the youngsters are out of control then things could get worse. For Cesc's sake I hope it is the former, however even if it is, the problem that this squad has remains, not enough quality players. The honour could become a very heavy burden affecting form.

Man City demonstrated that we are short of top class defenders, midfielders, and goal scorers. The rapid return of Eduardo, Adebayor, Sagna and Toure could change that, but continuing injuries will be a major problem.

Myles Palmer believes that this is Monaco Mark II, he has a point, but I don't believe that players like Vela, Ramsey and Walcott are equivalent to unknown African players bought on the cheap. Also Wilshire, Sagna, Clichy, Fabregas, Nasri, Rosicky, Gallas and Eduardo have talent, the rest are fairly average. Indeed that is rather thin and hardly the basis for an onslaught on 4th place let alone the Premiership.

Today David Dein came out and defended Wenger saying he was the man to turn it around. He also stated that Wenger had tried to sign players in the summer but it had been difficult. However, more important than what Dein has to say will be the performance against Kyiv.  Arsenal struggled against Fenerbahce in the last game, for Cesc's sake I hope the team improves on that. Winterburn believes he is a great choice.

Due to injuries the  Squad is not much up on a Carling Cup one. Nonetheless let's get behind Cesc and the team tomorrow

 More Cops or Kids:

Squad: Almunia, Hoyte, Gallas, Silvestre, Clichy, Ramsey, Fabregas, Denilson, Vela, van Persie, Bendtner, Fabianski, Song, Djourou, Wilshere, Gibbs, Lansbury, Simpson.

Since Viera left...the Captains job is jinxed.

Think about it....

Nah, since Vieira left we have had no natural leaders and we still don't though I guess Cesc is the closest to be one, the problem is that he is too young, or maybe he isn't.

Well we will find out either way.

I personally think Cesc is the man for the job.

Even though he is young he is quite mature.

Plus hes been at the club for longer than Gallas.

I think he'll do well, but he needs the right players around him.

I wonder what formation we will adopt. If its fantasy football, I would play a 4-1-2-3 with Denilson protectign the back 4, and Fab and Ramsey a bit more forward, and a forward line of Vela (LW), Nic (CF) and RvP (RW) based on the choice of players that are available.

making cesc captain is not in anyway suggesting the youth policy continues.even if wenger makes an older player captain he will still be obsessed with his youth destructive policy. Torres was the captain of Athletico madrid before he left for liverpool. 1st wenger undermined his best and important player cesc by not signing a tough tackling DM to compliment him.now he is captain i hope to GOD he signs a good DM.he should not make cesc waste his best assets[ his vision and passing skills].he needs a DM to take care of business so he can do what he can do best.

wenger needs to recruit Keown now to salvage our defense.we have a glass jaw defense but keown managed to turn them into the best defensive unit in the CL.

Exactly. We have no DM and only one CM who is defensive minded and that is SOng but he isn't good enough. Denilson is CM who is more attack minded than defensive, while Diaby, despite his DM/CM physique is actually a pure ACM. SO we are in trouble...

Yeah but the thing with Adam's is that evryone knew that he was natural leader and from a very young age too. Basically he was born a leader.

Now Cesc can be great leader/captain for us, but jury is out on this as he has shown any solid signs of having natural leadership skills like Adam's did when he was young.
