Bolton Bogey Continues – what are they for?

Walcott lines up
By Boris Mellor October 21 2007
The Trotters are still looking for a first League victory at an Arsenal ground since their 1-2 victory on 13 January 1962. So Bolton’s bogey of playing Arsenal away continues. Arsenal often have a stinker after international week, so it was fortunate that they faced a team with no ambition at all.

Arsenal did not manage a shot on target in the first half; leastways I could not remember one.  At half time, I moaned and muttered about that fact, on the way to meet friends a few blocks along, and then it suddenly occurred to me that Bolton had no shots at all, on or off target.

The Trotters had been far too busy defending in the Gunners half to think of creating a chance. Old mother Riley was as ridiculous as ever, letting Diouf get away with murder, which got the home fans screaming.

It was a good job that OMR (Old mother Riley) did not send off Diouf, because he would have sent Cesc off to even things up. Yes, I admire Cesc’s spirit, but he is not a boy anymore, and has more experience than many older footballers have. So calm down Cesc, Diouf is a wind up merchant, and it nearly worked.

Yes Bolton are a disgrace, not just for their shirt pulling, back shoving, hacking, time wasting, and diving (please write in if I have missed a crime here), but for the fact they had one shot all match, and that was off target. Even OMR had to issue them with five yellows.

However, Arsenal had not created that much in the first half, in the second half they came out more determined, and increased the tempo. Unfortunately although Eboue was driving down the right wing his end product was poor. The final straw was his shot that missed an open goal.

Now Wenger, as well as the crowd, had had enough, off went Eboue and Eduardo, on came Theo and Rosicky. Now the team and crowd really began to buzz. The end was nigh.  Arsenals Kolo Toure scores the first goal from a free kick

Bolton gave away another pointless free kick which seemed too far out to score from. The crowd were bemoaning the loss of RvP as our overlapping centre back stepped up to receive it from Fabregas. He hit a daisy cutter that went in due to its proximity to the post, accuracy rather than speed was the key. Kolo and the crowd went wild, “You’re Going Down With The Tottenham” they sang. I really do hope so, I cannot stand watching this puerile shit much longer.

Bolton fans seem to agree as only half the away section was full.   Bolton now had to attack, and now Arsenal could counter at will.

Theo began to torment them, his pace was incredible. Weaving though the Trotters defence at will he set up Rosicky, who produced a finish that Berkgamp or Henry would have been proud of, a  stylishly side clip that gave Jaaskelainen no chance. The small Bolton crowd that now began to rapidly thin.

At 2-0 Bolton were finished, all that winding up and niggling had come to naught, perhaps they could try an alternative tactic – playing football. Nah it would never work.

If Bolton had a coach who could instill playing football in the truest sense to Bolton's players, maybe they could actually be a good team. Maybe...

The thing is that 90% of the players at Bolton don't know how to play proper football.

All they know is how to hoof it up towards their strikers.

How can the players be happy with the football philosophy they are playing??? Don't they want to play fun, exciting football?? Doesn't it make them feel small, when their coach instill a defeatist attitude in the team??

Yes, defeatist!! Winning by nudging, faking fouls to get freekicks to score at setpieces, committing necessary fouls to spot opponents from scoring from fast breaks, blocking goalkeepers at corners, wasting time, playing for a draw, intimidating opponents with lunges, aw, come on!!!!.

How can the players be happy with that footballing philosophy? Its like going to work everday and the boss instills in you every day that you need to cheat or wing it to be succesful because you guys are not good enough to win by playing fair.

The pre-game talk would be, okay guys, our opponents today is much better nad more skilful than you lot, so we have to cheat a bit to beat them. When you feel a nudge or feel a player going into you, fall down dramatically so you can get a freekick. You know that we can only score from setpieces. Kick it to Kevin and wait for the ball to drop. Maybe you'll get lucky.....

The Bolton players actually buys this crap???? How does the fans feel??
