Arsenal Old Boys Missing

Old Boy
By Boris Mellor May 12 2007
Sol Campbell, Lauren and Kanu are on the injury list for the game against Portsmouth this Sunday. The only old boy who might appear for Arsenal by the Sea is Richard Hughes. This is a far more important game for Pompey than Arsenal, for if they win there is a remote chance they can get into Europe.

If Arsenal lose they are still in CL. At one stage it was possible that if Pompey won they could dislodge Tottenham from the top seven, and quite a few Arsenal fans played scruples, but that is no longer possible, so the dilemma is over, go for the win lads.

Fabregas says he wants to fight on for third place, but that is not in Arsenal’s hands, for if Liverpool win, and with a superior goal difference, the Scousers will keep the Gunners in fourth place.Wenger will rest Lehmann; Adebayor has a groin injury, so he will probably start with Baptista and Freddy up front.

It is also likely he will rest Gilberto. So both teams have weakened line-ups, and in reality not that much to play for. Arsenal have finished strongly over last few weeks, and on paper should win, but if the players have packed their holiday bags already then it is no foregone conclusion.
