The Clarets put another point on the board and extended their unbeaten Premier League run to four games in a first goalless Premier League draw at Turf Moor since May, 2015.

On an afternoon of few goal-scoring opportunities, the Clarets recorded a second successive clean sheet in the league.

And with newly-promoted Huddersfield never overly ambitious and unable to break the deadlock themselves, both sides were forced to settle for taking some reward to occupy seventh and eighth places in the league table with nine points apiece – something both would have gladly taken six games into the campaign.

The first top-flight meeting between the two clubs since 1971 brought a return to Premier League action for Jeff Hendrick for the first time since the second game of the season.

The Irishman started in an advanced midfield position in support of Chris Wood as the Clarets utilised for the first time at Turf Moor the formation that had been so productive away from home.

But with a well-drilled, compact Huddersfield side getting plenty of men behind the ball it was hard going for Burnley - despite the promptings of the impressive Steven Defour - to see a route to goal.

And their only real chance of a sterile first half came to Wood with 23 minutes gone.

The striker had previously scored eight times against the Terriers for four different clubs but was unable to add the Clarets to that list as he headed wide the perfect cross from Stephen Ward.

The over-lapping Ward was the one able to get behind the Huddersfield defence and he almost picked out Wood again after a piece of trickery from Robbie Brady had unlocked Town’s back four as Burnley enjoyed their best spell of the opening half.
