Crystal Palace 0 Burnley 2

Crystal Palace 0 Burnley 2 Burnley finally ended their away-day hoodoo with a capital performance and a magnificent victory which puts Premier League safety within touching distance.

The Clarets produced their best away display of the season and this time were rewarded with the three points which lifted them to 14th-place in the table – eight points clear of the relegation places.

Ashley Barnes followed up his match-winning goal against Crystal Palace in November with another to take his total for the season to half-a-dozen as the highlight of a first half bossed by the Clarets.

And then following a superb rearguard action after the break, substitute Andre Gray broke clear to bury the late second which gave Burnley their first ever Premier League win in London at the 16th attempt.

It also ended Palace’s 10-game unbeaten run against the Clarets at Selhurst Park on a memorable evening which brought the best out of Sean Dyche’s side.

Dyche is also due his share of the credit after making four changes to his starting line-up, which paid off to a tee.

The absence of Joey Barton and the injured Ben Mee forced two of them, with James Tarkowski stepping in to play a big part in helping keep a 10th clean sheet of the season.

And in front of him, Ashley Westwood and Scott Arfield added some fresh energy to a midfield which supported the twin strikeforce of Barnes and the outstanding Sam Vokes – who were too hot for Palace to handle.

Palace had won six of their eight previous league games, prior to a mid-week loss to high-flying Tottenham, to also put themselves within touching distance of safety and predictably started with all guns blazing.

The Clarets had to see off a hat-trick of early corners and Tom Heaton made a flying save to keep out a well-struck drive from top scorer Christian Benteke.

Tremendous result, game plan carried out to the letter, well done SD. The ball from Boyd to Gray was absolutely superb, great team effort well done all.

hand up those who groaned at the 4-4-2 and team names...
Boyd Arfield et al...
but boy didn't they do well...
Some giant performances, some timely Heaton saves... and the perfect away performance.
ball from Boyd and the Gray goal shows what can be done if he gets the right service. Classic Gray goal.

Absolutely gorgeous ball from Boyd, and well taken goal by Andre, but the whole team played well. Watched a DVR of the game and have looked at a few of 'the calls' again.............the ref didn't have a blinder but his mistakes cancelled themselves out. Clarets deserved to win a game that they clearly set out their stall to win. I hate to write this but I will be pulling for Man U tomorrow...............

Yep Zaha def onside... heaton would have been red carded... but the Barnes handball was marginal... just on the joint of arm and shoulder I thought

never a penalty by Flanagan on Zaha... the latter had been falling down all game.

MOTD couldn't even be arsed to discuss the Gray goal and the pass by Boyd... if Messi had made that pass it would be shown 100 times

Had to record the game as I was coaching my son's team this morning - so I didn't get to see the line up until later, fortunately! I would have been apoplectic! Just shows how much I know.

Clearly Dyche was worried about Zaha and Townsend so priority one was defence.

Tarks on his prem debut having Benteke sitting miserably on the bench after an hour was just a joy to watch! and Westwood looks the part....onward and upward - it's all about the money now - let's finish as high in the table as possible.

A magnificent result by a magnificent squad of players and the staff for it was not just those on the pitch and bench that have created a team worthy of retaining its place in the Premiership. I hope Joey Barton had a really stinking big bet on them winning. I lay awake in the middle of the night listening to Clarets Player and even with Palace's 13th or 14th corner I couldn't think they would get anything out of it. Zaha by the sounds of it should have been off on a couple of occasions. Barnes, Vokesy and later Gray fantastic up front - I cannot wait to watch the game during the week.

Zaha could easily have been yellowed again and then red carded for continual dissent and eyeballing the ref.
On form he is a genius, yesterday he was like a giraffe on ice
