Blackpool v Burnley **Preview**

Bloomfield Road
By BBC 2
March 2 2009
On Tuesday night Burnley make the short trip to the Seaside and Blackpool. With the Claret's gaffer Owen Coyle coming out in the press stating he is set to make changes! well after the debacle against Sheffield Wednesday, something has to change.

Owen Coyle who has a fully fit Chris Eagles, a rejuvenated Clarke Carlisle and the Longside's sponsored player Kevin "Big Mac" McDonald all hoping for a starting slot, with Micheal Duff,Wade Elliott and Steve Thompson looking like missing out.

Our hosts Blackpool are heading downward fast, they are right in the mire of a relegation battle, and with former manager Grayson looking like taking his new Leeds United side back up to the Championship, it is looking increasingly like it could be his former side Blackpool who's place he could take.

Blackpool have caretaker managers in charge of team affairs  former Blackburn stalwart Phil Parks and Ex-Claret Steve Thompson, but with Owen Oyston and his Latvian Bankers in control, who knows if that deal would be made permanent.

Burnley have lost just once in February, but in contrast  Blackpool just haven't won! losing to Watford(0-2),Derby County(1-4), and Doncaster Rovers(2-3), they did however take credible points of both Ipswich Town (1-1) and Bristol City(0-0)

Burnley's games in Feb consist of the very credible draw at St Andrews where Burnley bossed it for almost 90 minutes but one defensive mistake allowed Alex MacLeish's men to take a share of the spoils. Burnley also took a point at Carrow Road, where Chris Eagles could have taken all three in the dying minutes with a chance you would have put your mortgage on him scoring.

Another point at home to Coventry City this time Chris Eagles was the man of the moment scoring in the last minute after Burnley's miss firing forward line did everything but score, without doubt happy with the point, but it was two points dropped.

Burnleys only League victory came at Turf Moor when the Clarets out played out thought and out fought League Leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers(1-0), so on to the last Saturday in February when Sheffield Wednesday were the visitors to Turf Moor, Burnley on paper should have coasted past  Wednesday, even the bookies had the Owls down at 3/1. But poor defending and individual errors cost Burnley dear, a stuffing! it only looked close with a fantastic free kick at the death by Chris Eagles(2-4).

On to the "Car Crash" of a Stadium that goes under the name of Bloomfield Road, where the cold wind from the Irish Sea making Blackpool seem like Siberia, and the lack of any cover on the scaffold built stand, and the fact its possibly the worst referee in the League (yes worst than Rennie) Lee Mason! We of the longside dedicate a "Proper Fan" badge to all those who make the short trip.

Here's to a memorable night where Burnley hope to put another nail in Blackpool's relegation fight and in the process push ourselves back into the promotion hunt.

Would it not be a preview rather than a review?

Good piece though.

Don't want to be picky but Blackpool is on the Irish Sea Coast. Still cold and windy though and at £26 a ticket I thought twice about going, even though it is only 10 minutes away from home for me. I hope and pray we will get something out of this game, a point isn't good enough and besides I work with a lot of Blackpool fans (Sm155)

This is one game that I would think most Burnley supporters aren't looking forward to.

Cheers on the Irish sea, and the Preview not Review.

Changed the Sea and changed the heading apart form the forum.

Burnley Poll

Should the club have bought back Turf Moor after promotion?
