Beast Extends His Contract

Beast
By Foreverclaret May 13 2008
Burnley Football Club have today confirmed that Brian Jensen has verbally accepted a new two year contract, this will keep him at the club until the end of the 2009/10 season. The Beast as he is affectionally known is currently on holiday but has agreed to sign his new contract on his return.

Burnley fans heard the news late this afternoon, news that was greeted in many quarters with dismay, The Beast hasn't really set the world on fire on a number of occasions of late, but Owen Coyle has decided even though he has made some howlers during last season that he is worthy of a new contract.

jensen_130508_aBrian was signed originally by Stan Ternent from West Bromwich Albion in 2003, during his first season as number 1 choice he played in 52 games for the Clarets. He was placed on the transfer list in January 2007 by Steve Cotterill after Brian had got the hump after being dropped, Steve then took him off the list in April the same year after The Beast apologised for his actions.

He played in just 21 games in the season just finished, playing second fiddle at times to Gabor Kiraly. Owen Coyle decided not to offer a new contract to Gabor, but has obviously chosen Brian as the better of the two by offering him this two year contract.

I don't believe for one minute that Brian will be first choice next season, I see him more as a number two, to a new goalkeeper at the Turf, who that new face will be is anybodies guess, there don't appear to be many good keepers available at the moment, but who knows by the time all the clubs have made their decisions on who will be staying and who will be going, there could very well be a few surprises in the coming weeks, and we just maybe end up with someone of quality, and there is no doubt if we are to mount any sort of challenge next season a quality keeper we most definitely need.
