Burnley Get a Pastying
By TheLongside.co.uk February 23 2008
The journey no-one looks forward to was upon us today and following trips to QPR and Dublin recently, Burnley fans have notched up some miles. With Cole and Akinbiyi out, it appeared that their lack of presense may have played a part in many of the Burnley contigent making the long journey home less happy than against QPR.

With Andrew Cole out with an achilles injury and Akinbiyi being a late change due to a virus, the Clarets started the game 4-3-3.

The game started quietly but after ten minutes, an easy save for Brian Jensen turned to disaster as the ball slipped through his grasp and Lillian Nalis put the greens ahead.

elliott_271007_aIn true Burnley fashion, the Clarets battled on and an Elliott cross put the Clarets back in the game via headers from Lafferty and the goalscorer James O'Connor.

The first half however saw another defensive error from the Clarets, unable to clear the ball away from Argyle players, eventually led to Peter Halmosi once again putting Argyle ahead.

Jensen redeemed himself just before half time with a good save that looked to secure the game for Plymouth ahead of the second half.

The Clarets had a much better second half. In terms of attack though it was pretty quiet, the crosses into the box led to nothing and the Argyle keeper was on the whole untested.

With 15 minutes remaining however Argyle managed another goal from a corner that secured their win despite the Clarets having most of the possession.

Managers Comments:

Owen Coyle:

"I know the reason why we lost that game but I can't believe we did.

"We made big, big individual mistakes for each of the goals in a game I thought we dominated from start for finish.

"We bounced back from a goal in their first attack to score a good goal ourselves, but for their second goal we had two or three chances to clear the ball and it has been allowed to carry on.

When I saw the title, I thought it was a spelling mistake at first. (Sm59) Whoever it was should be reporting for The Sun. grinning smiley
