Unhappy New Year For The Clarets
By TheLongside.co.uk January 2 2008
Burnley boss Owen Coyle has apologised to fans that made the short trip to Blackpool on New Years Day. A 3-0 defeat to one of our local rivals is certainly not the start to the new year we had all hoped for, although the manner of the defeat is what has upset Coyle the most.

'It was beyond belief and I have never seen a performance like that come from a set of players', commented Coyle after the match.

coylehead_020108_aThree changes were made to the starting line up.  In came Graham Alexander, Chris McCann and Andy Gray for Carlisle, Jordan and Akinbiyi.

Not that the changes boosted the Clarets as they conceded midway through the first half and two further second half goals left Burnley six games without a win.

Coyle has also hinted that he may look to strengthen the squad during the transfer window and a centre half seems to be on top of the shopping list as he stated 'You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that we are badly needing a dominant centre half'.

The games don't get any easier neither.  Arsenal are the next opponents at Turf Moor and suggestions are that Arsene Wenger could be sending the first team as he saves the youngsters for the Carling Cup semi-final versus Tottenham just three days later.
