Tannadice erupted as the Tangerines took the lead in the 19th minute of the game when dundee's Dave MacKay hit the ball past his own goalkeeper and Speroni made a frantic run back to try and reach the ball as it trundled into the net, but could not reach it in time and it nestled in the bottom corner to make it 1-0 United.

Dundee were quick to react and got the equaliser 11 minutes later when Dundee Nacho Novo fired a low shot pastUnited No1 Paul Gallacher after Gary Bollan sliped.

The Dundee Gaffer Jim Duffy resisted the temptation to hand Mark Burchill his dundee debut and give him a tast of the Dundee Derby, Duffy decided to stick with his strike partnership of Nacho Novo and Fabian Caballero.

With Jim Lauchlan(6) was banned after his dismissale at Hampden this past thursday United Boss Ian McCall recalled Gary Bollan into the united fold once again. Billy Dodds(14) and Jim Hamilton(17) led the Attack and were backed up by Charlie Miller(8).

United took 17 minutes to trouble Julian Speroni in the Dundee goal, but when they did finally carve out a chance it was a golden scoring opportunity.

Stuart Duff's(15) cross found the boot of Jim Hamilton(17) for the half-volley, but Julian Speroni managed to get a hand to the ball and knock it over the bar.

Dundee players claimed for a penaltybut was turned down in the 23rd minute when Brady's powerful shot appeared to be handled by Mark Wilson, but referee John Rowbotham - despite being in close proximity - waved play on.

Dundee almost scored a second after 40 minutes. Rae picked up on the edge of the area and was able to get a clean strike, but Gallacher managed to get positioned well and palm the ball away.

The second half did not have as much goalmouth action as the first, but a sending-off for dundee united's Charlie Miller after 69 minutes - started a pateren of 3 successive game with a sending off under McCall - along with the debut appearance of Mark Burchill later contributed to an entertaining encounter.

United forced the first chance when Stuart Duff's cross was met on the half-volley by Jim Hamilton, but Speroni managed to get a hand to the ball and knock it over the bar.

Burchill was introduced after 71 minutes as a replacement for Novo, but blew his chances of gaining instant hero status among Dundee fans by shooting straight at Gallacher from eight yards.

Dundee United and city neighbours Dundee fought out an entertaining 1-1 SPL draw in their third meeting of the season.

1 point apeaice at Tannadice today saw the fans walk away with out much to shout about.
