Dunne – right back or midfielder?

It was Dennis Wise who helped Alan Dunne to show his true potential by sticking him on the right side of midfield. Dunne repaid him in spades with some top performances. Of course, Dunne started off at right back and looked promising at reserve team level.

Of course, Dunne started off at right back and looked promising at reserve team level.

But his real forte is coming forward as Wise realised.

Since Kevin Muscat left Millwall and Matt Lawrence has no desire to play at right back anymore that’s left Colin Lee with a quandary: who to play there?

The options are Marvin Elliott, Paul Robinson or Dunne.

Dunne has to play. He’s looking the most accomplished player at the club at present, but not always defensively.

It’s no good Lee complaining about balls coming into the box from the left wing if he’s playing Dunne – who’s better coming forward.

Surely Elliott has got to be a better option at right back on a temporary basis, if no one else can be recruited.

Robinson is needed at centre back for now, with Lawrence out injured, so Elliott’s the only choice – unless Lee gives a debut to Bostwick, who we’re hearing good things about.
