The Bundesliga welcomes new Brazilian maestro
By Parky
October 13 2006
It's been little over a month that Diego Ribas da Cunha, was sold by Portuguese club FC Porto to Werder Bremen for a reported 7 million euros. German media have hailed him as the hottest new star on the Bundesliga circuit.,
The midfield maestro has already been on the cover of Germany's top sports magazine, Kicker, who called him "Lord of the Ball."

Diego never found a stable position in the FC Porto team under coach Co Adriaanse, and Diego was left out of the Brazil squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament. He moved to Werder Bremen in May 2006.

His thought reveal a very negative last period at Porto, "I was disrespected by Porto in the last stage of the season. All of a sudden, I went from starter to out of the squad. I wasn’t even called for matches and there was absolutely no explanation for that. Of course it was the coach’s decision."

Diego’s initial thoughts at Werder Bremen are:

"German soccer is very fast, the passes are quick, the connection between defense and offense is very fast and normally the teams play to win. Werder Bremen too have a very offensive tactic, that's why I feel so comfortable playing here."

He continues, " The main thing was the big interest Werder Bremen showed for me. They had been following me for a while and it made me happy the way they approached. The president, the coach, directors, everyone showed a lot of respect."

Diego has fully recovered from a niggling knee injury to continue his spectacular start to the season with Werder Bremen currently lying third in the league. He has scored two goals in four games with four assists.
He isLooking like one of the best buys of the season in Germany so far.
