Despite having oil-tycoon Roman Abramovic for chairman- Everton's Wayne Rooney is too pricey even for Chelsea. Toffees boss David Moyes has stated that he would like in excess of 50m for the player and no club can affoed to spend that on one man!

Rooney not coming.

Monday 5th June 2004

Chelsea will not be making a bid for England and Everton's Wayne Rooney. After the player emerged from this summer's European Championships as one of the top scorers and was undoubtedly our player of the competition- many rumours began floating around the media.

Its seems, though, that Everton manager David Moyes has priced him out of the market after he declared that they would be looking for in excess of 50 million pounds for the forward. Even we cannot afford him.

Maurinho is quoted on TEAMtalk as saying:

"I love him. His personality is amazing,'' declared Mourinho. "When a kid of 18 plays like he did, it is absolutely amazing.

"I always admire kids like him and Ronaldo. They seem like they are 30 years old and full of confidence.

"But it is not just too much money, I think we have other priorities in terms of players and positions.

"Rooney is a wonderful attacking player, but he is not a pure striker, a targetman.

"He plays with free movement just behind on both sides, we have other players with these qualities."

Hopefully, however, Jose has his eyes on many other quality players- but he will probably be looking to offload players sooner as he is not looking to have a squad size of the one that Ranieri was using.
