A plan to take over Scunthorpe United stalls
By Dave Adamson May 5 2004
A consortium of 7 men who put forward a takeover bid for the Iron's has hit a brick wall. Another group led by former FA official Graham Bean have officially offered £450,000.
The group offered Steve Wharton £450,000 in return for Scunthorpe United, who have just secured a Division 3 spot for next season.
However, Steve Wharton is not happy about the takeover plans. Mr Bean spoke to the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, "We are disappointed that we have offered to sit round the table to discuss the issue with Mr Wharton and he has dismissed it out of hand."
However it also emerged that (now ex) chairman Chris Holland resigned from his position after having a bitter argument with Wharton. This now means that Wharton is chairman (currently).
It is all very confusing at Scunthorpe United.
