Despite going down 4-0 to Northampton at the weekend, Macclesfield Town boss John Askey claimed that the defeat was not a fair reflection of his team's performance on the day.

"We played well as a team and created plenty of chances but simply gave them the game with four individual mistakes," said Askey.

"It was disappointing because Steve Wilson didn't have a save to make other than the goals.

"If we had scored first it would've been different. We showed real spirit."
