Jon Parkin signs for Macclesfield

Macclesfield Town have signed York City striker Jon Parkin, who is expected to make his debut against Carlisle United on Saturday.

The fee was not disclosed but it is understood that Parkin has signed a contract until 2005.

Parkin, who signed for York City as a defender from Barnsley, almost exactly two years ago, was converted into a striker by then manager Terry Dolan.

His best performances for City were always whilst he was playing in attack but, this season, Parking has been plagued by injury and a loss of form.

At 22, Jon Parkin began his career with Barnsley where he featured in 13 games, including a an appearance against Newcastle United, before loan moves to Hartlepool and York. His loan spell at York City was successful and so he was awarded a permanent contract.

He played almost 60 games for York City, 41 of these coming last season. He bagged himself 11 goals last season, including the winning goal against Macclesfield.
