International Striker At Swansea!
|
The country who is chasing the hotshot is none other than goal-shy Northern Ireland and newly appointed manager Lawrie Sanchez has said he will not rest until he gets his man.
Huyton-born Trundle, who has scored 20 goals in just 25 matches this season, is thought to be keen on gaining a cap for the Irish Republic.
However with the likes of Robbie Keane and Damien Duff in the Irish side Trundle would surely be facing a losing battle to get into the team.
Sanchez said: "The Republic of Ireland manager, Brian Kerr, has been very dismissive of Lee's chances at international level - maybe because he plays his football in Division Three.
"But I'm very interested in Lee. I see him as a natural goal-scorer and I'm going to look closely if he qualifies for us. There's a lot of politics in Ireland - it could well be that either of Trundle's grandparents were born over the northern borders.
"I see Lee as just what Northern Ireland need right now. I'd like him to talk to me about the possibility of coming to play for us. His scoring record has impressed me over the last two seasons, he is a player I've been aware of for quite some time.
"I'm not exactly blessed with proven striking options in my squad. I have a couple of lads from the Irish League, there's another playing in Scotland and there are Paul McVeigh at Norwich and Stuart Elliott at Hull."
Will Trundle decide to play for Northern Ireland? Let us know in our FORUM today!
