Wrexham even though having Craig Morgan and Darren Ferguson sent off, held on for a shock point at Home Park, the referee had an awful game which led to Wrexham finishing the game with 9 men.

9 man Wrexham hold high flying Plymouth Argyle

Wrexham did themselves proud by putting on a performance that not many people expected us to pull off. After conceding 6 goals at Bournemouth and Peterborough, the fans of Wrexham must have been wondering what the final score would be at 5pm this evening as Plymouth look like they're on their way to next seasons division 1.

Wrexham were not helped by the fact that veteran central defender Brian Carey would be missing through injury after the Cardiff game on Wednesday evening. Many people thought that was it and we had no hope of keeping a clean sheet at Home Park as Plymouth are an attacking side which score a lot of goals, that's why they're at the top of the league table.

Also another injury frustrated Wrexham manager Denis Smith, as Lee Jones was ruled out for an unknown injury that must have been caused by training in the week, Lee didn't look like he got an injury in the semi final on Wednesday otherwise he wouldn't have taken one of the 8 penalties.

On loan Sunderland goalkeeper Michael Ingham kept his place in the starting line up as Andy Dibble still recovers from a broken arm, he pulled off a couple of cracking saves to keep the Green Army at bay, the two Edwards', Carlos and Paul continued on the right and left flanks and the midfield contained Paul Barrett, Stephen Thomas and captain Darren Ferguson. The back three was Craig Morgan, who came in for the injured Brian Carey, and big Dennis Lawrence with penalty shoot out hero Stephen Roberts. The two strikers that Denis Smith got in the summer to replace Lee Tr***le and Andy Morrell, Chris Armstrong, and Chris Llewellyn, both continued up front as there was little option to change the attacking force really, apart from Hector Sam who was on the bench, but Mark Jones yet again doesn't get in the squad.

Plymouth looked very good in midfield and made a few chances to try and break the Wrexham defence down, as past games on the road show, once Wrexham concede the one, there is more than likely more to follow. The Pilgrims defence had little to do as the Red Dragons didn't have many opportunities to score, that's why every chance would be important as Plymouth are no easy side to crack down.

The attendance was 12, 275, and the majority of them Plymouth fans, just over a hundred fans made the long journey down to Home Park from North Wales. Denis Smith had little option but to put youngster Simon Spender on the bench for this game, mixed emotions must have been going through his head when Denis said his name but once he came on for Stephen Thomas half way through the second half, the big crowd and the fact he was up against top of the table Argyle, that didn't intimidate him and did his job well as we come back to the Racecourse with a much earned point going into next Saturdays ticket only game against Tranmere Rovers, kick off 12pm. Also on the bench was Hector Sam, Matty Crowell, Shaun Holmes and Paul Whitfield.

So Denis Smith and his side will make the long trip back up to North Wales being satisfied with the point but will be dissapointed that Craig Morgan and Darren Ferguson both got sent off, the referee had an awful game and I'm sure that Denis Smith will have a thing or two to say about the two dismissals.
