You might remember a story a few
years ago about the future of the Racecourse Ground being secured for the next
125 years.
It was back in 1998
when Pryce was looking to move out of the chairman’s seat. He came to a
lease agreement with the brewery who owned the land on which the Racecourse
sits.
At the time Pryce
said: “It’s good for the club and good for the fans. It means we’re
assured of playing football at the Racecourse for the next 125 years”
It was a heartening and
reassuring story at a time when the club was facing an uncertain future.
We knew that
whatever happened and whoever took over from Pryce in the future at least
we’d still have our ground.
Thank god, therefore,
that this agreement was in place before Mark Guterman took control of the
club- a property developer with an appalling track record as chairman of
Chester City.
Now, you won’t
have read about the following in the Evening Leader, Mr Guteman has never
mentioned it and it would be interesting to find out how many of the Wrexham
board knew about it…
But fifteen days after
Mr Guterman bought Wrexham on June 10,2002 the 125 year lease agreement was
effectively ripped up into shreds
On June 25,
2002, a mysterious little company called Damens bought ownership of the
Racecourse land from the brewery. They paid £300,000 for it. Damens appears
to be an off-shore trust company.
Mr Guterman and Damens
are intrinsically linked.
Damens sole
shareholder is a spivvy looking chap called Alex Hamilton- an old mate of Mr
Guterman’s. Alex is what could be described as a colourful character.
Alex used to be a
director with a company that Mr Guterman own which sounds like it should be a
cleaning product- Memorvale. It’s via Memorvale that Guterman bought Wrexham.
Damens and Memorvale
are also linked by a mysterious woman called Teresa Hindes. She’s the sole
shareholder in Memorvale and company secretary of Damens.
So without a peep of
any of this being made public Mark Guterman moved himself into a position
where he owns the club and colleague owns the ground it sits on. Between them
they can do what they want with the Racecourse.
Of course, there’s
nothing illegal in any of this and Mr Guterman has made it clear that he wants
to develop the ground. But the future of the Racecourse is now reliant on
having faith in Mr Guterman.
The basic facts of who
owns our club were only made public a few months ago thanks to the
investigations done by a concerned Wrexham fan known as Keb Mo.
It was making this
information public via the Wrexham message boards and references to our
chairman’s girth which provoked Mr Guterman to threaten Keb Mo with legal
action.
It does seem amazing
that the Evening Leader has never published this information and there’s
only been a fleeting reference to it in the Daily Post.
