I'LL BE BACK SAYS DIBBLE

New Wrexham loan signing Ingham, 23, replaces the injured Dibble, 38, at Queen’s Park Rangers as Wrexham aim to jack-up themselves from the 6-1 wreckage of Peterborough. Ingham came in yesterday on a month’s loan while veteran Dibble denied his 24-year career was anything but over.

Wrexham manager Denis Smith said to the Evening Leader: “I spoke to Mick McCarthy at Sunderland and he’s happy for me to take Mike on loan for a month. We’ll take it from there, but obviously it’s a massive game for the lad to come in cold at QPR. They won 4-1 at Hartlepool on Saturday so they’ll have a big crowd for the game against us.

“But the lad has played for Sunderland and I know from my time up there, if he can handle that sort of passion, he can handle whatever happens at QPR.
“He’s a Northern Ireland under-21 international, he’s 6ft 4ins and can kick a ball a hell of a long way. It shouldn’t be an ordeal for him and I’m sure he’ll cope.

“He played against us while out on loan at York a few seasons ago and did exceptionally well while he was there. He kept seven clean sheets in 17 games for them. Let’s hope he keeps another this time!”
Ingham’s arrival will no doubt have mixed emotions for Paul Whitfield, who deputised for Dibble at Peterborough. It was 0-0 when Dibble was carried off but Whitfield ended up conceding six as Wrexham collapsed against Posh. Smith has to push aside sentiment and go for whom he believes is the right man for the job.

Dibble as we all know was rushed to hospital with a double break of his right arm but is now home.
He said to the Evening Leader: “What I want you to make clear in the EVENING LEADER as much as anything is. . . I’ll be back!

“There was some talk on the radio on Saturday about my career being over. That is not the case and already I’m looking forward to pre-season training!
“The surgeon assured me I will be able to carry on playing and, from my point of view, that’s fantastic news.
“I have enjoyed my football at Wrexham as much as anywhere I have ever played. I want this club to go forward and I just want the rest of the lads in the side to feel - and play - the same way. We have all got to pull together now.

“It’s definitely not the end of our chances of getting into the play-offs just because we have lost by six at Bournemouth, and lost 6-1 on Saturday.

“We’re still there and I’d like to wish the new boy, Mike Ingham, all the very best for tonight. I have worked with Mike when we were at Stockport and he’ll do all right. But now is the time for those in front of him to show what they’re made of. You get nothing in life - or football - without working for it. We can still do it.”

Smith agrees: “Dibbs has been special for me this season. He’s got such a winning attitude he’s good to have around the place. I’m delighted he’s already talking about coming back. That shows the sort of lad he is.
“But the spotlight is now on Mike Ingham and the rest of the lads. We all know QPR will be a tough game, but they’ve only got 11 players like we have on the pitch. I’ll be looking for a big, big effort tonight.”

Centre-backs Brian Carey and Steve Roberts both return from suspension to the delight of Wrexham fans. They will make the defence stronger, especially with the experience of Brian Carey, Wrexham's defenders will need to get there act together after collapsing alarmingly after Dibble was carried off. Craig Morgan is a likely victim of Saturday’s crash.

Smith also has to make room for Roberts, with Shaun Pejic standing down.

Wrexham Probably: Ingham, C. Edwards, Roberts, Carey, Lawrence, Pejic, P. Edwards, Whitley, Ferguson, Thomas, Crowell, Armstrong, Llewellyn, Whitfield, L.Jones, Sam, Thomas, Barrett.
