Away Days - Peterborough

Something didn’t look right about Wrexham from the off today, maybe the off the pitch stuff is getting to them but they just looked off the pace. Peteboro despite fighting to avoid relegation came into this game with two one nil wins under their belts but until today had only won two games at home. The home crowd were understandably quiet really in contrast to the fairly noisy 300 or so red army.

From kick off Peteboro looked hungry, looked like they wanted to win and just got stuck in straight away. Within five mins they had had a couple of good chances but we dealt with them pretty well whilst having a couple of good chances ourselves. Dibs tipped a great shot over the bar on the 5th min, but on the counter attack Paul Edwards crossed right across the Boro goal before Carlos hit it right back and Paul nearly got on the end of it.

The Wrexham goal was very strange and even now I couldn’t tell you what happened. The last most of us saw was Llewellyn hit the by line and there seemed to be a bit of scrambling before one or two Wrexham players claimed a goal and it was like the fans didn’t know at what point to celebrate. Very strange and none of us saw it.

The joy didn’t last long because with the next break Peteboro equalised. Peterboro seemed all day to be about half a pace faster to everything, Pejic lost his man a couple of times and Morgan often seemed to be on the wrong side of his man.

The second goal came soon after Paul Whitfield, on for the injured Dibble, made a great point blank save only to push the ball back to a boro to drive it home. Wrexham just seemed so disorganised today but even 2-1 down we settled the rest of the half and went into the break with us thinking we still had a chance.

Not for long though, a mix up between Crowell and Lawrence gifted the ball to boro once again and they ran on to score the third. This really typified the game. It wasn’t so much Peteboro beat us they just capitalised on Wrexham’s mistakes.

For anyone not able to attend the game, you’d imagine us to be over run and yes to a certain extent we were. Boro just seemed to want to win more, they were physically bigger and roughed Wrexham up a bit. We looked like a young side today and we needed Carey at the back. Pejic an Morgan playing together just look too raw. We didn’t stop trying to play today even at 5-1 we tried to create chances but it seems that once Wrexham stop doing what they do best (passing) then we are in trouble. Why the hell we start playing kick and run football is beyond me. Morgan hit a couple of awful long balls. Crowell didn’t have any impact at all today in this fast paced game and Fergie looked sluggish. Armstrong and more so Llewellyn seemed to be up for it but it was in midfield we lost the game today. Neither Carlos or Paul Edwards had a really bad game but we seemed poor in the middle of the park and at sixes and sevens at the back.

Even at 3-1 you still had to fancy us getting a draw but when the fourth went in most Wrexham fans went home. Even the home fans didn’t seem to believe it they never really got into celebrating til 5-1 but then if you have only won twice before at home then you would hold your breath I guess. When the fifth goal went in a lot of Wrexham fans left to the waves and cheers of cherio cherio cherio. If I could have got my flag down off the fence discretely I would have sneaked out with them but when the sixth went in, again a mix up between Wrexham players, I could take no more. There is only one good thing about being thrashed and leaving early, you miss the Car Park traffic jams
