| Wrexham finally got a home win to ease the pressure of continuous disappointment at the Racecourse. With the crowd just over 4,000, Denis Smith was looking for a good home win to go back into the play-off places. The corresponding fixture seen Barnsley come out on top with a 2-1 victory at Oakwell. Ex - Barnsley striker Lee Jones was not in the starting line up for the game as it was one game to early for the front man just coming back from injury but was on the substitute bench. Wrexham put in a gutsy and determined performance despite growing frustration towards some dire refereeing decisions which could have cost the dragons so much. Dennis Lawrence cleared a shot off the line after Andy Dibble failed to reach the on coming ball, Barnsley applied most of the pressure on the back men of Wrexham but it was Wrexham who got the all important first goal. Wrexham took the lead following a mazy run from under-fire striker Chris Llewellyn, who beat several men before firing into the bottom right hand corner. Despite the Tykes creating several great opportunities they were denied by a combination of determined defending and wayward shooting which would have pleased Denis Smith as they battled for the all important 3 points. Dennis Lawrence received his marching orders following another debatable decision off the whistle-happy referee. a through ball saw Lawrence challenge for the ball, and as last man the ref did not hesitate in brandishing a red card. So a fantastic, resolute performance which sees us deservedly climb back into the top 6. A similar performance at Ashton Gate next Saturday could see us claim some more points in another vital promotion battle.
