What a great game
today. It suprised me how many away fans turned up but there
were probably 500 of us there. From the off the game
looked like it was gonna be great. The officials
Phillips, Flynn and Armstrong all sounded like a good omen for
the day.
The game started at a
cracking pace and Brentford looked up for it. The home crowd
must have been pleased with a couple of their early chances
but too be honest as wrexham fans I'm sure we all prefer to
see a team who are up for a game of football. We know
our away form is great and that we play better against sides
that give us space. We had a couple of early chances too
and it soon became an excellent advert for 2nd Division
football.
Today was one of the
best one nil wins i have seen for a long time we were well
organised, everyone looked up for it and we played some
excellent football. Oh what a difference it makes to have a £4.5
million pound striker upfront even if he has got a bad leg.
Armstrong had a few chances to score today but to be fair they
were chances he created himself. LLewellyn looked to have one
of his better games and I feel excited about the prospect of
the two of them getting used to playing together.
Paul Edwards had a great
game, I'm not sure if it was down to the lad marking him or
his recent found ability to do something different than try to
beat the man on the same side time after time. It was a
relief to see him cut inside and one of these times he created
a lot of space for himself and launched a superb strike that
went pretty close to putting us one up.
To be fair to brentford
they gave us a good game especially in the first half and a
couple of defensive mistakes could have been punished worse. Whilst they caused us some problems you got that feeling that
the wouldn't beat us. They were dangerous a lot of the
time in the first 3/4 of the pitch but their finishing was as
poor as ours used to be.
Right on half time it
started raining and looked like it could have been quite bad.
The stewards must have heard about the stockport situation cos
they allowed us into the stands for free. This was great
really because it helped with the atmosphere and made the
wrexham fans sound much louder.
The second half
continued at the same blistering pace, but this time it seemed
to be wrexham that were more in control. Our passing was
excellent today and we really did control much of this game.
The defence was pretty solid apart from the odd scare but as
the game went on they got less. Carlos seemed to work well
having Chris armstrong to aim at and Chris really did look
like he was gonna get himself in lots of potential scoring
positions. The goal looked like coming for a while before it
did and when it did it was text book football, a perfect cross
in from the left and Armstrong was there with a great header.
Armstrong ran to the
crowd to celebrate his great header and a few of the lads ran
to the front, joined by more fans and more players it turned
into a group hug.
We created plenty more chances in the second half and went
close with a couple. Dibble lost the ball when it
slipped thro his hands at one stage but we recovered from that
and he made for it much later when he made a point blank save.
Brentford had chances but it was the workman like performance
from Wrexham that was the most pleasing. Actually I lie,
the most pleasing thing about today is Chris Armstrong has now
completed two full games and he looks like he is going to
score goals. Stephen Thomas worked hard today but it is
hard to say who didn't. We looked like a team who worked
well together and even once we were one up we didnt take our
foot off the peddle. It often felt like we were gonna be
at least two up and even in the added on time we still took
the game to them instead of sitting on it or wasting time.
The
team out there look like they could be our team for the rest
of the season if all goes well and they continue to work like
that and link up so well. The possesion we had and the
passing we did was very good today. If we keep up
this we are in with a chance. Its 9 wins now away and I
think Bournemouth havent lost at home so next week could be a
cracker or maybe we are all due a draw.
