CARLOS EDWARDS
Welcome to what will hopefully
become a regular away match review on www.cpd-wrecsam.co.uk
Every true fan knows that away days are what football is all
about and hopefully I'll be able to share some of the weird
and wonderful antics we get up to when we hit the road, as
well as my thoughts on the game.
We arrived in Chesterfield just after 1pm, and not a minute to
soon for yours truly who sprinted to the nearest pub to
relieve himself after nearly an hour of pain that all men can
relate to. However my pain did not go un-rewarded, as I found
an extremely friendly, albeit worryingly named pub called 'The
Industry'. A few pints and a few more pisses later and it was
time to take the short walk to the ground.
On arrival to the away turnstiles I was shocked to meet
stewards that wern't so far up their own arses they could be
mistaken for glory hunters - no search, no interrogation and
no questions upon walking through the kids/students
turnstiles. OK, so Nou Camp it may not be, but there's
something satisfying about standing on an exposed open terrace
for a few hours watching football that could easily be
mistaken for The Dog and Duck verses The Grapes. Or maybe I'm
just strange.
The second half didn't get any better. In fact the only thing
that kept me sane on the way home was the thought that I
witnessed Chris Armstrong's first and probably only league
goal for the club. It was only a tap in but at least he's done
better than our last 'big name' striker did during his short
spell at the Racecourse.
It's
hard to sum up just how bad we played. The worst thing was
Chesterfield were only marginally better. You have to feel for
Smith, he's expected to gain us promotion with a squad of just
14 fit professionals (that's if they've been paid this
month...) We badly need to bring a striker and midfielder in
on loan. Llewellyn and Sam have only clicked once this season,
but in fairness today our midfield were absent without leave,
so had little support in front of goal.
Enough of the doom though, at
least it didn't rain and I can proudly tell my grandkids that
I saw Chris Armstrong score...
