Dundee Utd 3-2 St Mirren
By Jamie Cockburn
January 26 2009
Saints travelled to Tannadice to take on Dundee United which turned into a thrilling encounter between the two sides.

Saints threatened very early on when Andy Dorman took a stab at goal but it hit the post.

The buddies continued to threaten Dundee Utd when Billy Mehmet hit the crossbar.

Saints eventually opened the scoring when Jack Ross recieved the ball at the edge of the area and superbly drived the ball into the back of the net.

Craig Conway came close to equalising for United but his shot went straight over the crossbar.

In the second half Saints were denied a stonewall penalty when Lee Wilkie clearly handled the ball in the box to put it out for a corner.

Dundee Utd were soon after awarded a penalty when Franco Miranda apparently pulled Lee Wilkie to the ground when trying to get his head onto a free-kick. Replays however suggest otherwise. Warren Feeney sent the ball into the net from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.

Straight after play resumed after the goal Saints sent the ball upfield and Lee Wilkie brought down Dargo with a slide tackle from behind a penalty was awarded to St. Mirren. Billy Mehmet coolley scored from the spot sending the keeper the other way to put St  Mirren back in front.

Dundee Utd nearly got another equaliser when Mark Howard missed when trying to punch the ball away but Scott Cuthbert blocked the first shot from Gary Kenneth and then Danny Swanson sent the ball well wide of the goals.

Prince Bauben equalised when it looked like Mark Howard had saved his long shot but it still managed to find a way into the net. Poor goalkeeping from Howard.

United got the winner in the 86th minute when Feeney managed to get a foot to Sandaza's cross to put the ball in the net.

Saints could of got a dramatic late equaliser but Wyness's shot ended up wide of the net.
