Ipoua joined the Preistfield cub in March 2001 from Scunthorpe United but has not been able to hold down a regular place behind strikers such as Marlon King, Rod Wallace, Tommy Johnson and Mamady Sidibe.

Player-Manager told the official Gillingham site"We've got a lot of strikers and something had to give, so my decision was for football and also for financial reasons. We have to make cuts if I'm going to be able to bring in a player or two in the summer. Guy has been fantastic for this football club and I wouldn't knock him at all. But I have to look at it long-term. He understands that."

As a Gills fan I have mixed feelings about Guy's release, but I am sure he will bounce back, even if it is in another division!
