Wayne 'The Chief' Allison was snapped up by Neil Warnock in the summer of 2002 from second Division Tranmere Rovers on a free transfer. He failed to make a impact and looked a failure as another new signing, Iffy Onoura was given a first team place a head of Allison.
Sadly in Blades 1-0 victory over rivals Rotherham United in September of that year, Onoura landed awkwardly and had to be stretched off, it later occurred that he had torn a crucial ligament and was ruled out for at least six months.
After that injury Allison was given a chance and made a immediate impact after coming off as a substitute in the next game against Grimsby Town when he netted his first goal. Later that season he continued to score some first team goals, including some important ones, notably winning goals against Sunderland in Worthington Cup and against Crystal Palace in the league.
Before he moved to Bramall Lane he was at Prenton Park where he played just under 100 games (96 to be exact) while notching 32 goals.
He started his career in West Yorkshire with Halifax Town in 1987 and played around 90 games for the Shaymen before joining Watford for £250,000 in 1989 but only made 6 league appearances for the Hornets and failed to score.
His next club was Bristol City in 1990 where he stayed their for five years, during that time he played a massive 149 league games for the Robins but only scored 48 goals, during his spell at Ashton Gate he scored a goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup which sent the tie into a reply, City then won the replay at Anfield.
He then went on to play for Swindon Town in 1995 until he moved back to West Yorkshire to play for Huddersfield Town in 1997 and then Tranmere in 1999.
