Dean Reynolds

Dean comes from Grimsby which has also given the game Ray Edmonds and Mike Hallett. He didn't have a notable amateur career although by the age of 12 he was beating some of the best players in the local league; but when he beat Dean O'Kane to win the inaugural BBC Junior Pot Black event.  His first event as a pro was the 1982 Embassy World championship , Dean only achieved one more semi-final and a couple of quarters and began to slide down the list. Away from the table he received a couple of convictions for drink driving and the second, in 1999 resulted in a four-month jail sentence.

Austin Mitchell

Austin Mitchell has been the Labour MP for Grimsby since 1977. Previously he was an academic (Nuffield College Oxford and New Zealand Universities) and a television journalist (BBC and Yorkshire Television). A former Parliamentary Private Secretary, Opposition Whip, Member of the Treasury, Civil Service Select Committee and Front Bench Spokesperson on Trade and Industry, he currently sits on the Agriculture Select Committee. He presented 'Target' with Norman Tebbit on SKY from 1989 to 1998. He can also be heard for a limited time only on Talk Radio from 10 am to midday on Sunday Mornings.

Mike Hallett

Mike Hallett was a good, if not outstanding, junior and he won the National Under-16 title in 1975. He started work as a shipping clerk but always wanted to be a professional snooker player. 1986/87 saw him reach the final of the World Doubles with a young man called Stephen Hendry and he ended the season by reaching the quarter finals of the world championship. Nowadays he spends much of his time commentating for TV and it seems unlikely that we will see him back on the main tour again.
