Following prolific spells at Bury and Ipswich Johnson was signed in January 2001 by Former boss David Platt to fire Forest back into the Premiership.
Sadly, this target was wasnt achieved with the Jamaican striker scoring only twice before Platt left the club in the summer of 2001 to take up a post with the England Under 21 Side.
With Paul Hart taking over the reins for the 2001/02 season Johnson probably thought he was going to turn over a new leaf and start living up to the hefty transfer fee, sadly this was not the case as the striker's form, fitness and confidence went from bad to worse! In the end having fallen totally out of favour at The City Ground he was farmed out to Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley for loan spells just to ease the wage bill at Forest.
However this was to be the turning point! Having scored goals during his respective loan spells David failed to earn himself a permanent move to either of the two clubs and found himself back at the City Ground for the start of pre-season training in the summer. Several goals in friendly games filled the fans with optimism that he may finally start showing the consistent form which encouraged the club to spend £3m on him in the first place.
And we were not to be dissapointed! Johnson has taken the division by the scruff of its neck firing goals left, right and centre to help Forest into the promotion frame. Should he keep up this unbelievable form The Reds could well be back in the Premiership in the near future facing a battle to keep hold of their star striker rather than trying to give him away which was the case during the summer!
