With a defence that has conceded unnecessary goals on a regular basis this season, Grayson has made no secret of the fact that cover for the back line was greatly needed. The untimely injury picked up by Rui Marques last week and Paul Huntington's long term ailment had further prompted calls for Grayson to once more use his skills in the loan market to shore up the back line. The arrival of Sodje will most definitely provide additional cover and competition at the back as Leeds look to push on for an unbeaten end to their domestic season. The Nigerian international, 29 who joined Reading almost three years ago after making over a century of appearances for Brentford brings with him a wealth of experience, especially his time in the Premiership with the Royals.
Marques's injury will be a massive blow for the in-form Yorkshire club; it is no secret that this run of form for the club has coincided with two factors. One being the arrival of Richard Naylor, another former loan signing of Grayson's and the other being Marques's return to form and best spell of the season. As his form slowly returned, so did Leeds'.
It will be no surprise that Marques's injury will surely have sent worries into all Leeds fans minds, especially as his likely replacement looked to be the extremely out of form Lubomir Michalik. So the arrival of Sodje will go some way to alleviating these fears.
The arrival of Darryl Flahavan however, will certainly please the Elland Road faithful. Flavahan, 30 who joins from Crystal Palace until the end of the season brings with him a wealth of experience. Having made over 300 games for Southend in his career, Flavahan will provide welcome competition for the goal keeping spot at Elland Road.
United's current number 1, Casper Ankergren, who himself has just won his person battle with Dave Lucas to be United's first choice keeper, has failed to impress this season. Despite being a good shot stopper, the former Brondby stopper's aerial ability has left the Leeds fans quaking in their boots every time an opposition team send in cross or corner.
Despite possessing a promising youngster in Alan Martin, Grayson obviously feels that he still needs time to develop as a player before throwing him in to the mix. Things do look bright for the former Scottish under 19 international though, currently learning his trade at Barrow. Hopefully in a few years, Leeds will have another Nigel Martyn on their books.
It's doubtful that Flavahan will make the starting line-up on Saturday, but it certainly will make Ankergren raise his game, if he wants to keep his starting spot.
Hopefully, with the arrival of Sodje and Ankergren, Leeds can continue their quest for automatic promotion, however remote the chances are. All Leeds can do is to continue winning matches, second place is Peterborough's to lose and Leeds are ready in the wings, waiting to pounce on any mistake from Ferguson's side.
All in all, a good days work in the office for Grayson. Some of the Leeds faithful would have liked to have seen a winger, or someone with pace to provide much needed backup to the team. But it wasn't to be. Grayson obviously wants to build from the back and seems happy enough with the players at his disposal....for now.
