Beckford Charged
By Andy Baggott
February 12 2009
Jermaine Beckford faces a 3 match ban following the FA's decision to charge him with violent conduct. Although Beckford was booked at the time, which appeared to mean that no further action could be taken, it emerged that Beckford was booked for a push rather than the elbow.

Personally, I have my doubts - I fail to see why he would possibly have been booked for the push.  However, the elbow was indefensible, and a 3 game ban fully deserved.

The bigger picture here though is the crazy rule that someone cannot be charged after the event if the referee sees it and deals with it - even if they are clearly wrong.  The FA should have the ability to investigate anything and charge as they see fit.  Personally, I have my doubts that the FA would have gone down the same route if it were say a Man Utd player - I think the booking for a 'push' was a get out route.  As I say, Beckford deserves punishing, but the whole process is wrong - and it's Leeds that suffer again...

Re: Beckford Charged
I would like to know what action the fa is taking against the millwall player that "tackled" andy robinson with his elbow in injury time of the first half!

Blatant anti-leeds-ism AGAIN!!!

Good luck to Jermaine, he's currently the backbone of our club and any suspension is another under hand technique employed by the fa to scupper our promotion chances!

proud and tall in the goal mouth stands the viking,
and the eleven foes are never far away.
flasher lorimer, what a shot!
then to tie them in a knot, is eddie "the last waltz" gray!

I's no more than what he deserves tbh but the FA need to take into account the nature of the game... Tackles were flying in left right and centre at times and some deserved of a lot worse than booking... that one late on against dickson... if he had made contact he could of broken his leg or something such as that... And there was definitely intent in that tackle

Re: Beckford Charged
Watching highlights of the game is enough to realize that there were many tackles that should have been dealt with more firmly by the referee. Milwall players were guilty of some very rough tackling and got away with it. If the FA want to be fair, they should watch the whole match and charge whoever deserves to be charged and deal with the whole situation in a fair manner. To concentrate on Beckford is merely to look with one eye. That is unfair.

Re: Beckford Charged
The fact that the referee refers to it in the match report is what sparks the FA charge - as far as I am aware, he mst say that something occured in the game that he did not see and he would like the FA to consider it (as in "If I had seen it, I would have done something different")

Andy is right though - the whole process is flawed!
