A rally call
By Greg May 13 2008
Half time in the Play-off semi-final and Leeds are 2-1 down to Carlisle. The performance was disappointing and frustrating as we know Leeds can perform better and as we approach the 'second-half' on Thursday, lifelong Leeds fan, Greg (Greg 4 LUFC on our message board) posts a rally call to Leeds fans everywhere. Let's hope the players and management read it!

Greg 4 LUFC writes;

"Believe me. When it comes to Leeds United, nobody can get as downbeat as me at times.

I have seen it all over the years. The lowest point being deducted 15 points by the Football League. I was in the pool at the villa I was stopping at on the Costa Blanca, and my brother-in-law Peter came out to relay the bad news that we were 1-0 down at Tranmere. Not just handicapped before the season started, but already losing in our first game at our lowest level ever. I have defined this as our lowest point ever, and still maintain that point.

Whatever happens this season, I will remember it forever. Up or down, we have been our own personal success story. The handicap was put there to relegate us again, make no mistake about it.

Who can forget chalking those points off of our handicap when win after win ensued back in the day? The weekly chant on the terraces coming through...

"9 more points to go, 'til we get to zero!"

The scene was set for a great season, a togetherness compounded by the Football League themselves ironically. Nobody out there likes us, but the shows of largesse demonstrated on the terraces when we hit zero points.. and the chants of "ZERO!! ZERO!! ZERO!!" will stay with me forever.

The rest of the Football League were watching.. quietly. The rest of League One were concerned... not so quietly!!

Leeds United seemed to be on a date with destiny! Could they go the whole season unbeaten? Could they win the league?

Forty six games is a very long time though. And there were a lot of twists and turns to come before the season was to end. Poyet left.. it feels now as though he was never even here! Wise took charge on his own.. and began to show that he wasn't really that good. Form dipped, and from being top for a while on Boxing Day, we began the slow decline out of the Play-Off places.

Then Wise went.

So there we were. Managerless, rudderless.

Gary Mac was brought in to appease the fans. He also started off not so well, drawing a host of games before wins started to come. But win we did, and things picked up. We eventually started playing well at times, and finally secured the Play-Off place we were all dreaming of. You would have taken it in August, yet alone when Wise walked out on us.

So here we are with our date with destiny.

I am of the opinion that Leeds United will get promoted this season.

I said it at Forest to my mate. If we win here today, we will go up. And I will stick by that sentiment now.

Because at full time yesterday, well, on ninety minutes anyway, we were 0-2 down and out of it.

But just like the annoyance we have been all season, the pain in the ar**se and the thorn in the side that is Leeds United.. we just went up towards the oppositions goal and scored!

Just like we have been all season. On off days, we still chased that elusive 95th minute goal!

We now head up to the far North West corner of England. Carlisle are up by a single goal. Not two, just one. If we net first, we will be back in it. No aways goals rule, just us with the momentum with us. The home side could have their fans panicking, sensing defeat.

Gary Mac will have realised his huge faults from the first leg. Everything will be in place to rectify where it has gone wrong.

We are just a simple goal down. Our away form has been better most of the season than our home form. We have to take it to them.

Their keeper was amazing last night.. but how long can he hold out like that?

You have the game of your life once in a lifetime.. not twice a week.

I am a believer in destiny! Our destiny.

Modern day cult heroes and legends are there to be secured this season, and it ain't over 'til the big lass sings.

I still expect twists and turns.

I have this sneaky feeling Dougie Freedman is going to immortalise himself into Leeds United folklore somewhere along the way... a brace from him perhaps.

It's not over yet boys and girls.

We are going up...

WE'RE JUST DOING IT THE LEEDS UNITED WAY!!!!

COME ON LEEDS!!!!!!!!!!!
