With Arbitration extended to a fourth day, and an unknown timescale for any decision, save an assurance from Leeds Utd that the decision will be announced by the 1st May, just two days before the end of the season, the implication of the results became a lot clearer at the weekend.
The victory over Millwall saw Leeds stay firmly in 6th Place, 4 points inside the play-off positions with 6 points still to play for. The results at the weekend though, where current 2nd place holders, Carlise lost, meant Leeds moved 9 points behind them with the 15 point penalty, or 6 points clear with. With a goal difference of +32 (against Carlise on +21), the (hypothetical) return of all 15 points means Leeds United have secured the 2nd Automatic Play off position, and moving 1 point behind leaders, Swansea, Leeds could yet lay claim to the League title.
As things stand, Leeds are not yet assured of a play-off place. Results over the next two games could see them drop down to 7th Position, finishing the season with no reward and of course, if the result of Arbitration is for Leeds to get some points back, their final position in the play-off places could change also.
Doncaster Rovers, currently 2 points from second place and battling to overtake Carlise, and Carlise themselves have both threatened further legal action if the Arbitration Panel were to decide in Leeds' favour and it is fair to sympathise with their situation, although in fairness, Leeds United have played an entire season in the situation they are now finding themselves in - the uncertainty around the points so it a case of 'Welcome to our World'.
Leeds boss, Gary McAllister is not banking on anything and is working towards the worst Case scenario. His efforts remain focused on securing that Play-off place.
