Leeds Utd news round up

Dougie Freedman
By Andy Baggott April 9 2008
Various bits of news coming out of Elland Road a the moment. Here's a round up of the latest developments. On loan striker Dougie Freedman (pictured) has confirmed that Crystal Palace are able to recall him at any moment, but he is hoping to stay and win promotion with Leeds.

Freedman has a clasue that allows Eagles boss Neil Warnock to take the forward back after 28 days, which have now passed.  Hopefully Freedman who has been key in the turnaround in results and form will be able to help with the final push.

Defender Rui Marquez could be on his way out of the club.  The centre back is out of contract at the end of the season, and hasn't been able to reach a deal with Leeds that would see him extending his current deal.  The club have now decided to put those talks on hold so that the Angolan can concentrate on the bid for promotion.  Various clubs are interested in the centre back, and this appears to have turned his (or his agents!!) head a bit.  Promotion should see the popular defender stay - lack of promotion could see him moving to pastures new...

The reserves are in action today at Elland Road against York - kick off at 2 o clock.  Leeds have neamed a young side, captained by Fabian Delph.  However, Leon Constantine, back from his loan spell at Oldham plays, as does Finnish winger Seb Sorsa.  Check back in this afternoon for an update on the game.

Finally, a big crowd is expected on Saturday when high flying Carlisle are the visitors to Elland Road.  With just 5 games to go for Gary Mac's men, it's vital that the current form is maintained to the end of the season (and beyond).  It's a 12.15 kick, but a crowd in the high 20,000's is expected...
