By Rich Baggott October 25 2007 A number of news Agencies are picking up on the story that Leeds Assistant Manager, Gus Poyet, could be about to make a shockmove away from Elland Road to take up a position at Tottenham. Martin Jol is rumoured to be overseeing his last match in charge of the London club in tonights UEFA clash - and Poyet could be about to take up as Assistant Manager role at White Hart Lane.
The news would be a bitter blow tot he Leeds fans who are finally enjoying stability and success after such a period of change. We'll bring you more news as we hear it...
id be surprised if Gus was there on saturday, if he is id take that as a good indication he will be staying, i expect him to either resign or we get compensation.
Pure speculation as always.
If he goes he goes. There is no loyalty in football we all know that and he is just here earning a wage doing a job. Nothing special just a job to him. It's hardly like he wears our club crest on his heart is it !
Although he is less Chelsea than Dennis wise and Ken Bates, he isn't Leeds United.
Personally I doubt that Spurs would really want him. An unproven manager (great No.2 that he is) to take over a club that has spent a load of money, expects to be challenging for Champions League and is in a load of trouble, staring at the bottom of the Prem.
Gus has loads of potential, has a great football mind and was a great player in his time, but Manager of Spurs?
IMO they are much more likely to go for a top foreign coach with a proven record.
Cant see why Spurs would want a pretty unproven 3rd Division assistant manager! It wasnt as if he was a legend at Spurs, was it? He hardly played for them.
If he's given the chance I am pretty sure he will go. Pretty much anyone who is given the chance to jump from Leauge One to Premiership would take it, despite friendships etc.
