Teletext Contributions For The 2002/03 Season....
February 20 2006
This summer's CCFC shopping list: A keeper(s!), some height, some muscle, a matchwinner, a couple of goal- scorers, some tactics, and a mad, mad lottery winner to invest in CCFC! Big mistake by CCFC to not cut season ticket prices. The club aren't doing enough to fill those empty seats! Good luck to Telford in their bid to get Gary Mills as their manager - they're welcome to him....
Adios to pessimism - some good news! Congrat's to Isaac Osbourne on a fine debut. Congrat's to CCFC for managing a point! (A goal would have been nice, but let's not push it, eh?). And congrat's to `Fan Of The Year' Kev Monks - another 20,000 like him, and we're laughing! And the Supporters Trust is finally happening. All I need is 1,000 new subscribers! Email firstname.lastname@example.org - now!
If CCFC were an animal, it would have been put down by now. We're not even lame - we're lifeless. One point, and no goals against Walsall, Derby, or even Stoke? Disgraceful. Has any team ever fell so far so fast? From 4th to 20th in twelve weeks? Safe now, but only because of others. I've been saying for months that CCFC are feeble - and Macca has finally realised. Roll on the summer break!
Villa staying up, Leicester going up, Strachan's going to Cardiff, CCFC were humiliated by Ipswich, and played off the pitch by Walsall - what a terrible week for football. Well, CCFC anyway. The end of this season can't come fast enough! The only positive we can cling to is that Premier bound Pompey ended as low down the table last season! New fanzine out now! Hopefully there's still some CCFC fans left to buy it...
Happy now Strachan? Are you so in need of your pay off that you need your money now? Or are you merely trying to finally kill the club you failed at? A suggestion: Why not bring your team to Highfield Road for a pre-season friendly? A sell-out crowd should be guaranteed, and at £12 a ticket, that should raise your money. You're guaranteed a very warm reception .... Good luck for Sunday, Watford!! [v Southampton in the F.A. Cup].
For 135 minutes it was like watching CCFC - then England stepped up a gear. Time for CCFC to do the same. And if the youngsters need inspiring .... While the man might be a tad over-hyped, I would suggest CCFC's youth team dressing room door has two words printed above it: "Wayne Rooney". At an age when most people are still trying to sneak into pubs, he is a national hero! Hats off....
Blimey! It's getting close to two pairs of pants time! We're to near to the bottom of the table, and 47 points probably isn't enough to survive. Macca was at the Arsenal-Chelsea match this week. Maybe the rumours we're signing Zola and Bergkamp ARE true! Sympathies to Barry Quinn - played out of position for three years, then released. Good riddance to most of the others on the list though....
Garbage. Absolute garbage. If CCFC can't be bothered, neither can I this week....
Three players badly injured, another sent off, plus three biggish name redundancies. And another player makes the front not the back page. Another dull week at Highfield Road then .... JJ and Eustace found the net again, which has hopefully pushed their value up when they leave in the summer. Attendance are dropping, and the club are doing nothing to get people back. What a great time to be a CCFC fan....
There can be NO excuses for our display against the worst team in D1. And there cannot be a CCFC fan who now believes we can make the play-offs. Ten players are expected to leave CCFC this summer - that number should go up after Wednesday. Just awful. I think McAllister could be amongst them too. Everything he tries is failing - and rumour has it everybody is falling out behind the scenes....
Just when you think you've reached the bottom of the barrel .... and with Grimsby and Sheff Wednesday to come, we could yet find more layers to scrape away!! With CCFC so goal-shy, I've heard some interesting rumours as to why Joachim has suddenly started playing, and why McSheffrey isn't. Not enough space to repeat them here though .... Finally, a plea to Notts Forest: If you don't need Darren Huckerby!!
Another dozen corners, another dozen chances to put the opposition under pressure wasted. Are our management team watching the same game as the fans? If they are, why are they not changing things? CCFC have used 38 players so far this season, and most haven't a clue how to score a goal. Not that is matters, as most players haven't a clue how to set them up either - yet we're still only five points off a play-off place....
CCFC were offered Jansen on loan. GM should've bitten Souness's hands off, but as of yet he still has both .... CCFC keep missing out on players as wage demands are to high. We more than likely won't make the play-offs with what we have - splash some cash CCFC! Surprised to hear Holdsworth is the link between midfield and attack in our 4-5-1 system. If he's not the `1', who is? If he is the `1', why is he?!
Premiership wannabees CCFC have now been outplayed and outfought by the mighty Brighton, Rochdale and Watford. And never mind John Collins, Joan Collins would've been better than most of the shower versus Watford. There's more chance of Graham Norton scoring with a woman than CCFC finding the net the way we are currently creating! Joachim finally looks like making the first t.... wrong! Injured again....
How embarrassing! Gary Mac shown how to take a corner by a Third Division player!! Perfectly delivered, and a quality finish too. Time he shared set piece duties with others, as his aren't coming off at the moment. Holdsworth said this week that it's time the team lifted the fans - some would suggest him leaving would help! Meanwhile, Mr. Huckerby has fallen to 27th in the pecking order at Man City. We need his pace and scoring ability.
To those Forest fans that keep moaning that they were robbed on Saturday - get over it! We had thirty shots to your one in the meeting at Highfield Road, and you took ALL three points! Saturday sees CCFC journey to Rochdale in the FA Cup, and a lot of people would say `definite away win', but CCFC's record against them is very poor! Rumour has it 'Dale want their manager out - what chance a change of mind if they dare to win on Saturday?!
CCFC earned a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with victory over Cardiff, and around £250,000 from Sky for showing the match - which by a coincidence is the same as the amount of damage caused to the local pubs. The woodwork has come to our aid far to often recently, and it's time for CCFC to stop giving the ball away as cheaply as they are. To many chances that are being created against us are from our own lapses in concentration.
I thought the days of throwing away decent leads were gone. Much as the TV replay against Cardiff will swell the coffers, I'd have preferred to get the job done first time. Not an easy game. The transfer window's been open for 10 days but as of yet there's been no movement for our talented youngsters. On Shaw's current form, Davenport's best hope of a first team place looks to be at Arsenal or Newcastle!! I hope he'll remain a CCFC player though....
DECEMBER 27th and JANUARY 7th - TELETEXT HOLIDAY!
Revenge is sweet! The points we stole off Wolves more than made up for the ever-shrinking pile of birthday presents I got! (Or never got!). The same again against Derby would be the ideal Christmas gift! Our sympathies are with Derby at this time of uncertainty, with the club rumoured to be in danger of being taken over by somebody called Richardson. From what I've heard about him, nobody deserves that fate....
Richard Shaw and yellow cards seem to be the key to success for CCFC! The more cards the better the result, and if Shaw plays we usually win too! He's taken part in 11 games, and we've won eight, drawn one, and lost two! Not bad for a player most don't rate.... Bothroyd's finishing against Stoke was different class, and it appears that Gary Mac has thrown down the gauntlet for Bothroyd to get himself a move to the Premiership - he is good enough!!
Eight strikers tried in ten matches, and not one goal to show for it. Isn't it time CCFC acknowledged the problem might lie elsewhere? Like those that provide the chances? Right midfield, for instance? A recent online poll I conducted was 100% in favour of Pipe replacing Chippo. Over to you GM.... The short-term loan players have added nothing we didn't already have, so the sooner CCFC use their allocation up the better - bring the "kids" back!
The keepers can't keep goal, and the strikers can't strike - apart from that, everything at CCFC is fine .... No goal from a striker for an age - and to think Strachan once failed to sign Van Nistlerooy as he didn't rate him!! You couldn't make it up. As for the keeper problem, bringing somebody in is a necessity! I hear there's a half decent keeper called Dudek at Liverpool who might not be busy on matchdays soon....
Soccer isn't rocket science. When CCFC select the youngsters, they do okay. We're slowly swapping them with dinosaurs, and we've stopped winning! And when will CCFC bring in a loan keeper? If we're going to score nil, we need a keeper that is going to make sure the opposition do the same. If CCFC can't survive D1 without Gary McAllister on the pitch, how would they cope if they are promoted?
I'm sick and tired of hearing `CCFC should have won that one' every time CCFC play but fail to do so. Norwich, Leicester, Pompey, Forest, etc, etc - we won't be awarded a play-off place because we competed well against teams, only for actually beating them!! Davenport, Konjic, McAllister, Safri, Partridge, Caldwell, plus others - how many of them aren't in the top few players in their position in D1?? So why can't we beat teams? Still gutted.
What is going on? How can McSheffrey go from `the next best thing' to `bloke in the stands' so quickly? If it's down to a lack of goals scored I have a suggestion: Try playing him in the same position (i.e. out-and-out striker) for 90 minutes. Radical .... The only reason Joachim can possibly have leapt ahead in the queue is that CCFC are hoping by some miracle JJ scores a few goals, and earns himself a move when the transfer window opens.
Gutted again! Why do show so much respect to opponents? If we actually bothered playing to our strengths not just concentrating on theirs, we might actually start taking some points. Time to get nasty, CCFC, now! The Walsall match was pretty dire, and CCFC lacked any sort of spark - which made the fact that Delorge was sitting in the stands clubless an even harder pill to take. Any chance of re-signing him? Or at least passing to Kerr?
Gutted! Yes, CCFC got decent results against the top two sides, but it should have been six points, not two. CCFC's decision to defend for the final 35 minutes against Norwich, with ten players in the final 20 yards of the pitch, backfired - deservedly so. Eustace's finishing is still woeful, missing three clear goals Wednesday. He could be the next Bryan Robson - currently he's more Bobby! (Aged 70!)
It took Derby only nine weeks to do what it took CCFC ages to do - get rid of Richardson! It seems the club and BR disagreed over his title - they refused to call him `The Messiah'*!! The other club BR almost ruined*, CCFC, face their toughest test so far - Pompey away. Whichever 'keeper CCFC select, it's time they ditched the "Seaman's" and became more "Kirkland".
*Not necessarily true ....
So finally, possibly the only player to ever make Craig Bellamy look like a decent CCFC signing has left - good riddance Runar Normann! No doubt you will go onto become a world beater.... Speaking of people who don't do their job properly, what planet has the reporter who wrote, "The pint-sized midfielder [Thompson] has made an explosive start to his Blackburn career after his move from Liverpool", been on for the last two years?
What a Wednesday! A new, 8lb CCFC fan is born, and CCFC win 8-0! Welcome to the world, Megan Elizabeth.... Soccer was put into perspective though as ME's journey into the world was not as plane-sailing as we would have liked. Thankfully things are improving. As for CCFC, they seem to play so well in the WC Cup perhaps they shoud try treating every match as a cup game, starting with Gillingham on Saturday!
How are Wimbledon still alive? And how long can they continue with such small gates? I'd be sad to see them go, as our win would be chalked off .... Also, the tower has finally gone! Now we can get on with the job of building what we've all been waiting for for years - the world's biggest Tesco's!! The chairman's new Q & A section on the official website is welcome, but the first offering disappointing - answering the stuff fans already knew.
Four words I never thought I would hear together: Runar Normann, goal scorer. One of CCFC's worst ever buys finally gets involved. The display versus Grimsby was poor, against Wednesday even worse. What happened to our passing game? And who is that person pretending to be Chippo? Bothroyd always gets the blame, but there were half-a-dozen+ worse displays than his for both games. His efforts are greatly under-valued....
There's only one division between us, but the class gulf between CCFC and Colchester was massive. They never looked likely to join the list of smaller clubs to embarrass us. Goalkeeping debutant Debec will never have an easier game for CCFC if he stays for 10 years, and in David Pipe, CCFC might have found another gem. Next it's Grimsby, who've failed to score in six of their seven matches so far this season! Banana skin time....
Another televised defeat. Nearly 30 chances created versus Forest, and no goals to show for it - very poor. Macca is rumoured to be bringing another striker in - I would suggest teaching the players he already has (including himself!) to shoot straight instead (NOT straight at the keeper!). CCFC, it seems, only win when they play on a Saturday, with a 3pm kick off - I'm not looking forward to Colchester in the cup next midweek...
Replacing Konjic with Walsh is like swapping whisky for dishwater! Our mistake was exploited to the full by a very average Watford side. Thompson is gone, but Delorge will adequately replace him. DT's shots to goals ratio was poor - and Delorge will only get better. McSheffrey once again showed why he should start, so probably won't even make the bench versus Forest!
A few CFCC doom-mongers predicted we would be nothing more than also-rans this season - I disagree! The defence looks strong, the passing is good, and there looks to be plenty more to come. We've taken seven points from the nine on offer, yet I believe CCFC haven't moved out of second gear - yet! And how much fun has Davenport had already? Sent-off, gave away a dodgy penalty, then atoned with a cracking headed goal! A star is being born!
So far so not to bad, but we need to add goalscoring to quality passing. And so much for my tips for the top! Delorge carried off, Davenport sent off, and McSheffrey benched - despite scoring a belter. And CCFC are again collecting cards like Rod Stewarts collects blondes .... Finally, anyone know Neil Warnock's diet? I'd love to be able to see as clearly as he can - through crowds, and round corners from 50 yards away!
How poor are CCFC that we cannot even afford freebies?! Only one real signing at the time of writing .... The squad still looks fairly strong (Except at right-back!), and with GM's wise, more than capable talent on the pitch, I predict a decent campaign. So many CCFC players were signed up because of promise they had shown - it's time they started living upto their potential. The quality is there, it's time to prove it!
