Coventry Telegraph Article 6 Season 2015/16

Can somebody PLEASE tell Coventry City it's not compulsory to finish 17th?

Unbelievably, we are now almost as close to the bottom four (Twelve points away) as we are to the top six (Eleven points away).Who saw that happening when we hammered Gillingham 4-1? Even the most negative of fans couldn't have expected any collapse to be this massive.

This season, possibly more so than others, is beyond disappointing. Coventry City have gone from looking like a team, and entertaining long-suffering fans, to a bunch of individuals, seemingly without a clue.

The player banter on Twitter has certainly dried up - unless this is down to the players not wanting to appear to be having fun because fans will criticise?

So thanks to all concerned for building us up, then smashing us down. Then smashing us down a bit more for good measure. History was there to be written, but the players threw away the pen (Or, in so many cases, missed it).

It's hard to know where to start apportioning blame, but I guess it has to be with the manager? Unless something has gone on behind the scenes. I have heard one rumour about bonuses … but nothing more. I just don't understand how a decent team can get so bad, so quickly, for so long.

As per usual, some people are blaming the bringing in of loan signings. This excuse wasn't trotted out when Armstrong and Murphy were banging in the goals, and Kent was leaving defenders trailing in his wake.

And loan signing Jodi Jones, brought in 'for the future', has won almost every MOTM award since coming in, despite supposedly needing to serve an apprenticeship before getting his chance.

I genuinely thought, in a moment of foolishness, we might have striker that hit thirty goals in Adam Armstrong, and that Murphy might get close to twenty.I'm beginning to wonder if either will actually score another.

I've been more disappointed with too many of the permanent signings rather than the loan ones. The lack of games, and the speed with which some have been allowed to leave, would suggest those in charge know mistakes have been made.

The general consensus amongst supporters is, that with the squad we have, wherever we finish now is unacceptable. This was our chance.

One thing is for certain: the fixture that so many wanted to see won't be happening next season. Aston Villa kept their side of the bargain by as good as ensuring relegation. We haven't.

However well we might or might not do next season, I will try to refrain from believing we will EVER finish in the Top 6, until it's mathematically impossible for us NOT to do so.

To quote The Who: 'Won't Get Fooled Again'….
