Coventry Start With Superb Opening Day Win

A comfortable opening day victory, against promotion favourites Wigan, helped by a performance probably better than any display by Coventry City in the 2014/15 season.

Two smartly taken Adam Armstrong goals gave the home side deserved victory, while every player brought in over the summer contributed to a comfortable win. Armstrong was unlucky not to repeat Mick Quinn's feat of scoring an opening day hat-trick, with a disallowed goal, and one effort that looped just over the bar after he had chased down keeper O'Donnell as he desparately attempted to clear (Plus a few other efforts!).

Ricketts was solid and dependable at the back (ably assisted by Reda Johnson), while Vincelot looked assured in midfield. Lameiras justified being signed, as he constantly drew fouls from Wigan players that could not cope with his trickery, and along with Maddison (who was unlucky with one effort that hit the post) should prove to be a nightmare for most League One defences this season.

Suddenly the poor sequence of results over the summer seem insignificant....

Booked: Fleck, Vincelot.

Attendance: 13,131.
