Coventry End Season With Another Defeat

Coventry City's youth team went down 4-0 in front of a watching TV audience, as the season finished with a totally expected defeat.

The first fifteen minutes saw plenty of Coventry pressure, before Southampton wandered up the other end of the pitch to score - this coming after Baker wasted a glorious chance by not even hitting the target while in acres of space on the right-hand side of Southampton's penalty area.

Coventry City also forced half-a-dozen corners in the first quarter of the match, which, as per usual, come to nothing, while Southampton gained one corner, and scored again - 2-0. To make matters worse, Coventry City did have a player on the line, but he just wasn't tall enough.

There seemed to be a hand-ball in the build-up to Southampton's third goal, while their fourth was, as usual, totally avoidable had Coventry City's defenders bothered to show more commitment.

The supporters that travelled down to watch this were in fine voice, and deserved so much better than to witness a 4-0 defeat, in what was, as has been stated by many, 'men against boys'.

One of the few experienced players in the Coventry side, Gary McSheffrey, was forced to leave the pitch early on, to be replaced by yet another youngster, Will Roberts, while Thorn opted to replace Bigirigama at half-time with Shaun Jeffers rather than the more experienced Clive Platt.

Joe Henderson, re-called from a spell at non-league Nuneaton, replaced debutant Jordan Willis, to give Coventry what must be the youngest side they have ever put out on a football pitch - and it showed.

The after-match interview with Andy Thorn would suggest that there is a problem with at least one of the senior pro's, with the Coventry manager hinting that certain players can sod off at the first available opportunity - one of whom could be the player that allegedly asked Brian 'Harry' Roberts how long last weeks award ceremonies would take as he wanted to go home....

TEAM: Murphy, Clarke, Hussey, Willis (Henderson), Cranie, Baker, Norwood, Thomas, Bigirigama (Jeffers), McSheffrey (Roberts), McDonald. SNU: Dunn, Platt.
