Coventry 0 Plymouth 1 - Not Good Enough
By CovSid67

Four thousand tickets were given away for this fixture, and I doubt any of those that saw this match for free will bother coming back, even if the tickets were free again. The performance was slightly better than the previous weeks shambles, but said comparison would merely be on a par with saying Sara Cox is being replaced on Radio 1 by Zoe Ball.

Coventry players were booked for the same fouls Plymouth were allowed to get away with, as the referee gave as poor a display as the two teams, while whoever decides such matters gave a mere three minutes of second half injury time given when there were two major second half stoppages, both lasting longer than said amount - though we probably wouldn't have scored if we had played 'til midnight anyway.

Plenty of corners were won by Coventry, but whether the delivery is good, bad, or indifferent, none of our players ever look like getting near the ball. The same can be said of Gunnarsson's Delap-esque throw-ins. They usually land where you would like them to, but the opposition is always first to the ball. We might as well go back to giving the ball straight to the opposition out wide....

How they fared:

KEEPER: Following the goal there was an exchange of words between Westwood and a few supporters in the Telegraph stand. When supporters are turning on somebody that has kept wins from being draws, draws from being defeats, and defeats being hammerings, you really do wonder what the point is anymore. Went up for a corner in the dying seconds, and was lucky to not see this result in a second Plymouth goal, with scorer Noone missing an empty goal.

DEFENCE: Osbourne made only one real mistake, and was heavily punished for it, helping Plymouth score a goal they didn't deserve. Chris Coleman is said to be looking to move him back into midfield, and it will be interesting to see who that is in place of. My guess is he will be played wide left .... Fox made little impact, but was offered so little support by the awful Jay Tabb, it's hardly surprising. Tested the Plymouth keeper once, and, with the keeper opting to put the ball over the bar for a corner, rather than taking the catch, should have helped point out Plymouth's possible weakness. So little was offered by the majority (All?) in Sky Blue that Ward seemed to take it upon himself to wander all over the pitch .... except for where he should have been, while partner Dann was lucky to stay on the pitch after one challenge.

MIDFIELD: What midfield? Simpson was full of running, but at times looked out of his depth, and always seemed to need an extra touch (Though he did score a belter of a goal, which was sadly cancelled out, thanks to a linesman). Doyle replaced Beuzelin for this fixture, but on this display probably didn't deserve to, while Gunnarsson was Gunnarsson! Was denied a very early effort, was booked, and knacked his wrist too. Tabb was rumoured to have passed a fitness test prior to this match .... I wish he had failed it. More anonymous than a joke in Birds Of A Feather, and so immobile he seemed as if he was wearing concrete socks. I'm sure his poor form will be blamed on the lack of a new contract being offered....

STRIKERS: Morrison clearly isn't happy playing in such a clueless side, and was often to be seen moaning at anything and anyone - and rightly so. As natural a goalscorer as the club has had in a while, with his talents absolutely wasted by the woeful lack of service. Alongside him, Best did better than the previous week, managing one effort that hit the bar - but it's not enough. The boos were missing when he was substituted this time.

THE SUBS: Most sides seem to have impact players, players that come on from the bench and change games. Last week Eastwood looked up for the challenge when he came on, but not so this week. Beuzelin replaced the injured Gunnarsson, but changed nothing.

IN SHORT: Absolutely not good enough. Chris Coleman might not like loan signings, but my guess is EVERY Coventry City fans is sick of seeing the current shambles, so it's time to bring some in. As many as we're allowed. We're not strong enough. We're not creative enough. We're not good enough.

TEAM: Westwood, Osbourne, Fox, Dann, Ward, Simpson, Gunnarsson (Beuzelin 67), Doyle, Tabb, Morrison, Best (Eastwood 65). SNU: Marshall, Wright, Hall.
