15 Questions For Newcastle
By CovSid67
August 26 2008
Having failed to find a Bristol City fan to answer our Q&A, we have managed to find a Newcastle supporter kind enough to give us the low-down on his club, on the eve of tonights televised Carling Cup second round fixture. Many thanks to LB at www.beautifulgame.net....

1. Who is your hottest prospect/best player (Possible answer is the same for both!).

Guthrie is still pretty young and although already established, I think he will get even better and become a very good player. Our best player in my opinion would be Shay Given, I rate him as among the very best in the world.

2. Is there a boo-boy in your squad? (Somebody who just cannot win the fans over).

Not especially no. Enrique hasn't exaclty become a fans favourite but I don't consider he has been given a fair crack of the whip yet. I also anticipate Joey Barton getting some stick when he returns

3. Who is the most likely player in your side to be sent off?!

Maybe Nicky Butt due to the nature of the way he plays, perhaps Alan Smith if he is in the team.

4. Your new signings, are they an improvement on the players you've released/sold?

Yes, massively. Guthrie i've already mentioned looks top class. I was disappointed to lose Emre, he had his critics but I liked him, although i'm even more impressed with Guthrie. Coloccini could finally be the right man to partner Taylor at the back. I thought Rozehnal would do the job when he was signed last year but that never really worked, this time I think we've signed the right man. Gutierrez looks like he has everything required to become a fans favourite. He works hard in defence and attack and poses a real threat from the wing, something the fans will love. We've got rid of Steve Carr and Ramage over the summer and whilst we havn't directly replaced them, I don't feel the squad will notice their absence too greatly, they'd just about proved they weren't good enough. Habib Beye (who we signed last year) is a far better bet at right back.

5. If money was no object, which three players from the Premiership would you sign for your club?

Ashley Cole - left back I see as one of our weaker positions, N'Zogbia does a job there but I prefer him as an attacking player. I'd say Ashley Cole is the best left back in the league, so hes the obvious signing there.

Fernando Torres - Because he's Fernando Torres, and will definitely score lots of goals. Owen and Viduka are often injured or unfit, so another striker would be handy to take some strain off of Martins.

Robbie Keane - I've just always really admired him, he's one of my favourite players and i've been wanting us to sign him for years (as unlikely as it might be). He can play in a few attacking positions so his versatility would also come in handy.

6. What is your score prediction for your match against Coventry?

Coventry 0-2 Newcastle. We look like we've finally improved massively at the back, plus I think we'll put out a strong side

7. Where will your side finish come the end of the season?

8th

8. Who will win the Carling Cup this season?

Chelsea

9. Is your manager the right man for the job? (If 'yes', why? If 'no', why not?!).

Yes, he is 'the' man for the Newcastle job. He inspires his players and the fans. Given time, he really turned things around last season and that looks like continuing.

10. And what is your opinion of your chairman (Woman) and your board?

Theres been uncertainty in the press, but i'm happy with the new chairman and his board. Sensible funds have been made available for transfers, we're not selling our better players despite interest and we're trying to sign our best players to new deals. The chairman is obviously ambitious, but I think also realistic.

11. How many academy/youth team players played regularly in your first team last season?

1 - Steven Taylor

12. Who was the last great product from your academy/youth team? And where is he now? (Presuming he's not still at the club).

I'd say Taylor is pretty good right now, he's going to be great. He's at Newcastle, where he wants to stay.

13. Who is your biggest hate figure in football? (Not necessarily still playing!).

Hate is a bit strong, but I really don't like Diouf

14. Do you rate any of Coventry City's players?

Have you still got De Zeeuw? I think he may be injured but he's a touch of class. I also like Ward at the back and Eastwood can be very good on his day

15. What is your opinion of Coventry City? (Presuming you have one!).

Decent club. Building a strong looking squad with a decent young manager I rate highly, you could perhaps push for promotion this year or next.

Thanks again to LB at www.beautifulgame.net !!

To any Championship supporters that might be reading this, your opinions will also be sought before our home fixture against you, so feel free to leave a message on the Message Board volunteering yourself!
