Freddie Eastwood scored the first of many goals in a Coventry City shirt (Supposedly a cross-cum-shot, but I would like to believe it was a moment of magic from the Welsh international!), with Julian Gray scoring a quality winner (Set up by Feddie Eastwood!). In between, the fairly highly rated Brian Howard notched an equaliser for Barnsley.
Injury to Stephen Wright saw the square peg that is Gunnarsson played in the round hole that is right-back. Should said injury last longer than a couple of days, the worry is that Michael Doyle will be able to walk straight back into the side, with Gunnarsson dropping to the bench, being a victim of his own versatility.
Barnsley had lost their opening Championship fixture to QPR, and had also lost their Carling Cup fixture against Crewe, but started this match brightly, testing Westwood on a couple of occasions. Following Coventry's opening goal, going against the run of play, Ward almost doubled the lead, hitting the post with a header.
Following a booking for a poor challenge, Morrison was lucky not to concede a penalty, and possibly a second yellow card soon after, when the ball struck his arm in the penalty area. Thankfully, the referee awarded a free-kick for a foul on the Coventry striker.
Ward and Tabb were both denied penalties after seemingly being fouled in the Barnsley penalty area, while Ian Hume was yellow carded for arguing with a linesman. Gray's quality strike gave Coventry the lead, before former Leicester striker Hume was sent off with just over ten minutes left, for a second yellow card offence (A nasty challenge on Mifsud).
Team: Westwood, Gunnarsson, Fox, Dann, Ward, Mifsud (Doyle 86), Tabb, Beuzelin, Gray (McKenzie 78), Eastwood, Morrison (Simpson 85). SNU: Ireland, Turner.
