Coventry Telegraph - Fanzone Article No. 1*
By CovSid67 August 15 2008
One Championship game gone, and two noticeably massive improvements already! Addedo that, three points despite a not overly impressive display, and the verdict has to be: so far, so good! Now if we can only beat that second league game of the season hoodoo....

Playing a right-back at right-back really does mean the opposition have to do real homework on our side, rather than just exploit the glaringly obvious weakness. And in Stephen Wright, we've added a real solid professional, whose experience should help a quality, but highly youthful back-line. The wait for him to sign on the dotted line took to long, but at least we finally got our man!

Secondly, we've signed somebody that can take a throw-in! It might not mean much to supporters of other sides, who have players in their side who can find  somebody in the same colour shirt, but for Coventry City it's a real novelty! Gunnarsson's throw-ins could just become the stuff of legend at our club! A decent debut too, and I'm sure there's 'more to come from him' (If somebody hasn't said that already, they will!).

The six players we've brought in over the summer period are a reall improvement on .... what we are stuck with because nobody wants our cast-offs!

Any other central midfield pairing has to be better than we've suffered over the last few seasons (Which division is the one who has departed playing in now?!), and in Gunnarsson and Beuzelin, there is the makings of a quality partnership for this division. Hopefully Michael Doyle will have to battle very hard to win back his place in the side!

Up front, a pairing of Morrison and Eastwood has goals written all over it - if they get the right service! And with Best as back-up, that should ensure they don't take their first team places for granted.

It's easy to get carried away at the start of a season, but ten of the eleven that started versus Norwich look a solid Championship force, in my humble opinion! And when the few injuries we have clear up, even the bench will look strong - something Chris Coleman stated at last weeks Fans Forum was not the case last season.

Sadly, Gray already looks lacking in confidence, and quite how he will build it back up is anybodies guess. If he starts a game, and doesn't impress within minutes, the rumblings of dis-content can already be heard, and if he comes on as a substitute, if last season is anything to go by, his introduction will not be greeted much better than the reception Kevin Kyle used to receive. I would suggest JG wears ear-plugs!

Hopefully the Mifsud saga will be completed one way or another in the coming days, as you can see in interviews with Chris Coleman that it's causing him massive frustration! Having a player of Mifsud's quality on the squad list but not involved is a waste of talent, but if he doesn't want to be here, get rid .... or is the queue to sign him not as big as he thought/hoped it might be?

All talk of promotion and relegation, in a perfect world, should be banned until after Christmas - and not just for Coventry City, but for all football in this country! That said, if Hull can achieve Premiership football, it shouldn't be beyond our reach either, so don't count us out until it's mathematically impossible for us to go up.

It is worth pointing out that I am actually writing articles for my website this season, because with Coventry City looking as if they might make an effort, I thought I might just do the same! Come along, read the articles, and leave your comments on the Message Board!
