The former saw a 3-1 victory recorded against Cambridge United - a fixture arranged as part of the deal that saw us sign (Or 'steal' if you agree with the opinion of the CU chairman!) Robbie Simpson - with two goals from Freddie Eastwood, and, sandwiched in between, a Dan Fox free-kick .... scoring from a free-kick? This season could be something special! This match was also notable for an impressive display from Ireland (A late replacement for Westwood) in the Coventry goal! Whoever has been training him over the last year or so must be doing a grand job, as he seems unrecognisable from the keeper fumbling the most basic of shots/crosses some months back.
Team: Ireland, Wright, Fox, Ward, Dann, Tabb, Beuzelin, Gunnarsson (Thornton 84), Gray, Best (Simpson 67), Eastwood (McKenzie 72). SNU: Hall, Turner.
The latter saw team two give (Sort of) local rivals, and recently demoted, Nuneaton Boro a pasting! Goals from Turner, Kyle, a brace from Birchall, and a Donovan Simmonds goal saw Coventry City ease to victory - and it could have been more had Leon McKenzie converted his penalty.
Team: Ireland, Grandison (Clarke 49), Borrowdale, Walker (Fraser 74), Turner, Hall, Birchall (Cain 84), Thornton, Kyle, Simmonds (West 84), McKenzie. SNU: Collett.
Michael Mifsud's move away is in limbo .... though might have been resolved by the time you read this! Having been given a 'take it or leave it' ultimatum by Bristol City boss Gary Johnson, he is still said to be thinking over the move, with Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock reportedly set to enter the race to sign him at the eleventh hour. Norwich are also said to be interested, though let's hope if they win the race for his signature, he's banned from playing against us in the season's opening fixture. For the fee rumoured to be on offer, if he could re-discover the form he showed between August and December, I would rather keep him; if it's the Mifsud from January to the end of season, ciao!
Kevin Kyle is also said to be on Neil Warnock's wanted list, while Burnley and Plymouth are also interested - though his salary could be a problem for said clubs.
Stephen Wright still hasn't signed the contract offered by Coventry City (Get a move on fella, I can't stand the thougt of another season without a right-back). Clinton Morrison's potential move to the club has been put on hold while the extent of his injury is worked out. In his absence, Eastwood has revealed how much he enjoyed playing alongside Leon Best.
With apologies to www.coventry-mad.co.uk for lifting one of their stories, Wycombe Wanderers have sort of implemented a suggestion I have long since suggested Coventry City try doing: '[Scott] Shearer, now at Wycombe Wanderers, was helping to hand deliver season tickets to some of the club's 2,000 season ticket holders' - my suggestion was for Coventry City players and management to go door-to-door attempting to sell season tickets!
