Pre-Season - Week 5
By CovSid67 June 9 2008
Attempt No. 2 at bringing you up-to-date with all things Coventry City, with the last effort seemingly having disappeared off the face of the internet. Included in said ramblings was some comment about signing Holland's eight foot tall giant Engelaar, so Tabb doesn't have to sit on Doyle's shoulders on corners to give us some height....

Coventry City are still interested in Kasper Schmichael, though any deal is on hold while Mark Hughes takes a look at his newly inherited squad, to see who is worth keeping (Schmichael isn't, MH, let him go!). On the off chance MH want to keep hold of young Schmichael, Carlisle's Kieran Westwood is also interesting the club.

Attempts to sign Freddie Eastwood are fading, as, either Coventry don't want him any more, and Wolves do, or Coventry City are pretending to lack interest in the hopes of a price drop, while Wolves are pretending he might actually have a future with them to keep the price high. New QPR boss Iain Dowie is also said to be interested. Heidar Helguson and Grzegorz Rasiak are now said to have jumped ahead of the former Southend striker in the 'interest' list.

Coventry City - and all the usual suspects - are said to be interested in signing out-of-contract Dundee United midfielder Mark Kerr. 171 appearances for DU (Plus 16 as a substitute), with only four goals scored, doesn't exactly sound like the sort of player we need though. Attempts to re-build the Walsall defence at the Arena are also rumoured to be continuing, with Anthony Gerrard said to be interesting Chris Coleman.

Liam Davis has left Coventry City for Northampton Town, signing a two-year deal. Michael Mifsud hasn't left the club, and reports linking him with Birmingham City, are, according to Alex McLeish, as wide of the mark as a Mifsud shot (January 2008-April 2008). Stephen Hughes also hasn't left Coventry City yet, but there's still time....

Coventry City state they are losing £80,000 a week, and are forecasting they will lose £4 million this financial year. Unsurprisingly, Chris Coleman has urged more supporters to buy season tickets, with sales currently standing at 8,200 - around a quarter of the stadium. Pathetic.

Momentarily reviving an old fanzine feature, 'In The News, In The Courts', two former Coventry City players have been in trouble with the law recently: John Williams for harrassing his ex-wife (A fairly dumb thing to do, as he was already on a suspended sentence!), and, on a far more serious note (Not that JW's crime isn't naughty), Coventry Kid Luke McCormick looks to have ended his career for the next few years, after being charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and also driving with excess alcohol and driving without insurance.

Time to, press 'submit', and see if this one works....
