Still no new signings, but two midfield players have been linked: Hibernian's Guillaume Beuzelin, and Luton's David Bell. With the news that Michael Doyle will miss the start of the season after his operation (Having played through the pain barrier to just about keep Coventry City in The Championship), a replacement is much needed! Cardiff's Tony Capaldi has also been linked with a switch to the Arena.
Craig Pead, in the League Two PFA Team Of The Season for the last two years, has been released by Brentford. He was due to join Port Vale, but had supposedly had a change of mind. Trevor Benjamin is also looking for another club, having been released by Hereford! And there's no prizes for guessing who Iain Dowie has asked to join him as his assistant, and as his fitness coach, at QPR....
Birmingham City's relegation has cost Coventry City half-a million-pounds (Though some of that should be re-couped when they bring thousands of supporters to the Arena next season), as one of the potential Gary McSheffrey add-ons is lost. Said side will probably include Coventry old-boy Lee Carsley, recently signed on a two-year deal from Everton.
At least one pre-season fixture has so far been confirmed: away to Cambridge on Saturday July 26th. But you will no longer be able to buy your tickets for this match, or any other, at the Coventry City shop in the West Orchard shopping centre, as it's to close on Thursday 29th of May. The club have stated that they are looking for another site, and the sooner they find one the better, as they have to have a presence in the town centre.
With the club hoping to double the amount of season ticket holder to somewhere around the 20,000 mark, 7,500 have so far been sold. To the good people of Coventry I say: 'the current Early Bird price represents very good value-for-money. Get off your Arsenal, and get supporting your local team. The Ricoh Rocks when the attendance goes over 20,000+....'
