Jay Tabb was missing for Coventry City due to illness (Flu), while Michael Mifsud was (Rightly) dropped to the bench. Leon Best returned from suspension to lead the Coventry attack too.
Watford, without a win in eight games, and with a poor home record for a side chasing promotion, went ahead after only seven minutes, when Ellington was allowed a free run towards goal, before unleashing a low shot that beat Schmichael on his left-hand post.
There was very little worthy of note in the first 45 minutes, though when Coventry City did try to launch an attack, they unfortunately found Danny Shittu in fine form.
A poor first half from Coventry saw Duffy (Who in his few showings so far has looked nothing like the player we've seen on previous loan spells, and is currently not doing enough to earn the move to Coventry he has said he wants) replaced at the break by Mifsud, with Osbourne dropping to right-back (Where, unbelievably, he looked better than when he was (Almost) played in his correct position).
Gray enjoyed a decent second half for Coventry, and it was his cross that saw Leon Best equalise with a fine header after an hour. Ten minutes later, Hines replaced Simpson, with manager Chris Coleman obviously hoping he would have the same impact as he'd had against Sheffield Wednesday.
Playing for the draw never looked like an option for the away side, and the winning Watford goal came as a result of a Coventry attack being foiled (With Best unlucky not to add a second goal to his name), thanks to the sort of 'Route One' play Watford are famous for. Keeper Lee's hoof down-field wasn't dealt with by Fox, and Smith nipped in to score for the very lucky home side. Even the more honest Watford supporters admitted that they had been very lucky!
With Stoke managing to lose at home on Monday night, and needing points to continue their challenge at the top-of-the-table, Saturday's fixture at the Arena should be a nervous affair....
Team: Schmeichel, Duffy (Mifsud 46), Fox, Ward, Dann, Osbourne, S. Hughes, Doyle, Gray (Thornton 88), Simpson (Hines 72), Best. SNU: Marshall, Hall.
