CET Article 5 - 07/8

I've asked it before, and I'll ask it again: will the real Coventry City please stand up? Added to earlier quality results this season (MU away, WBA away, Stoke away) comes finally beating the Ipswich hoodoo, and a superb victory against Blackburn in the F.A. Cup.

On the flip side of the coin are more defensively inept displays (In part thanks to a lack of quality in midfield meaning the back five are over-worked), including surely the most disappointing display and result since Iain Dowie took over: defeat against Blackpool.

Back to Saturday's stunning win! So Blackburn were a little off form? They still should have had enough in their locker to defeat us, as far worse sides have had a field day against our dodgy defence (Almost as dodgy as the decision by Saturday's referee not to send off Khizanishvili!). And quite where that Adebola wonder goal came from is anybodies guess.

Three goals in three games has a few people suggesting we should keep hold of him, but he has been inconsistent for to long (His entire career?!) for me to agree with that. I'm interested to know if he has suddenly found some form because the transfer window is opening (Now open) and he fears he could be on his way out, or because he wants to leave! Or maybe it's just a coincidence?

Better times seem to be on the cards, with, despite the failure to meet the deadline, SISU going ahead with the takeover - for a moment I thought we were going to have to arrange multiple seances to help push us closer to the required 90% mark! Thankfully, Joe Elliott doing a Bob Geldof style 'just give us your fupping shares' speech on local radio also looks unlikely to happen!

Whether or not funds are released in time for ID to strengthen the side remains to be seen, but it is clear to most that the side needs strengthening. Should our transfer embargo be lifted, the chances of holding onto the Mighty Mifsud are surely almost nil? Everybody loves a goal scorer, and his availability (Because everybody has a price, whatever statements are made by clubs) would probably alert the bottom ten sides in the Premiership.

Not that he would listen to my opinion, but I would ask that he gives us until at least the summer, for two reasons. The first is that I would love to see somebody in a Coventry City shirt score twenty goals in a season; and the second that is if it is his wish to play in the Premiership (And who can blame him for that?), he chooses a side that is still in it come August! (Those linked so far are all struggling). I would also suggest we send somebody to Malta ASAP, to sell replica shirts with Mifsud's name on, because a fair few new(ish) supporters will be leaving us when he goes!

The F.A. Cup draw against Walsall or Millwall wasn't exactly greeted with glee, but I would rather be in with a real chance of progressing, and earning that bumper pay-day next time (With winning the trophy seemingly beyond our capabalities, so we might as well make as much cash as possible), than seeing the dream fixture against Manchester United or Chelsea and probable elimination in Round 4.

Finally, I know Saturday sees us playing another 'little club', rather than a glamourous fixture against quality opposition, but it is a fixture that means a lot to Coventry City supporters. If thinking we are playing Leicester isn't enough to get the players interested, they could always pretend it's Everton. We are a mere seven points off the bottom three, and defeat to our rivals would leave us deep in the mire....
