Utter, Utter Garbage!
By CovSid67 December 29 2007
Utter, utter garbage. The spirit of ineptness that seems to infiltrate Coventry City managers after months in the job seems to have finally got its hands on Iain Dowie. With Ipswich (h), Bristol City (a), and Blackburn (a) in the cup, quite where the next win is coming from is anybodies guess - and probably won't happen with the inept defenders at our disposal.

There are a lot of things he seemed to be doing so much better than previous bosses, yet he appears now to be making all the same mistakes they did. Poor tactics, and bizarre substitutions (Adebola for (S) Hughes? With Thornton staying on the bench?) are just two of those failings, though if things turn out as they could/should (Small shareholders read on), wasting more money in the transfer market could soon be added to the list....

Only Coventry City could make Blackpool look like anything other than relegation fodder. The ease with which they won was shameful, with woeful defending once again to blame. Only a Coventry City player would bring down a player running away from goal to give away a penalty; the lack of a challenge helped Blackpool double their lead; failure to deal with a corner helped the home side to a 3-0 lead; while Vernon's late goal (Thanks to a dismal McNamee error) merely added insult to injury - though with a fair few Coventry City fans having already left the ground, they didn't have to witness the final nail in the coffin of what was probably the worst result under ID's leadership.

Kevin Kyle was sent off half-an-hour into this match, though did protest his innocence. He should have just accepted the decision, as he's got away with not being sent off enough times! I doubt he will be missed to much as he serves a three match ban....

Only Coventry City could fail to turn up on Boxing Day, meaning those once a season supporters (Who might be persuaded to return sooner if they see a Coventry side put in a good performance) remain as once a season supporters. Crystal Palace's decent run of results never looked under-threat, with the loss of McNamee after seven minutes for the home side probably not helping matters.

The Coventry midfield was anonymous, and within 20 minutes of the kick-off, there were gaps so big you really could have driven a few buses through without hitting anybody. To add to the misery, Doyle missed a penalty with the scoreline at 1-0, and chants of 'What A Load Of Rubbish' echoed around the ground as Palace made the game safe - not that it ever looked anything other than another win for them.

Ipswich Town at home next (I was considering paying for two people I know to go to the Coventry-Ipswich match as a birthday present, but think that on current (Lack of) form, socks and hankies is a better option). Their home record is formidable, their away record garbage. Their record against us over around the last 14 meetings would suggest they will heap more misery on those long suffering Coventry City supporters that are sticking with their team....

Off the pitch, only Coventry City could finally land a potential buyer, only for a few small shareholders to threaten to scupper the deal. Jimmy Hill has finally given up his share (Or agreed to), and I doubt he would do that unless he could see that SISU were here to improve our situation. Even if they weren't, we are not in a position to dictate to anybody, so if any small shareholders are reading this, for everybodies sake, hand them over.
